So, it's my buddy's birthday coming up. I asked his wife what he had been talking about buying for himself. She said M-7 bayonet. I found one on Amazon made by Ontario. I know Ontario is a legit company so I went with it. 49 bucks.
Anyone own one ? |
Don't own one, but by dad has recently been bitten by the bayonet bug. He wants a bayonet for all of our old guns.
If it's the actual GI M7, it's a pretty cool blade. I bought one a couple months ago from eBay that was a new in wrap Ontario issue bayonet, and I like it. There are many knockoffs out there so it all depends on what seller you purchased from.

They're pretty sure you won't shoot them, but not so certain you won't stick them.
Ever long gun that can take one should have one. |
I have a few M-7's. Have one in tan with a tan M-10 scabbard that came in a government stamped wrapper.
Apparently just slightly rare. Were issued during Desert Storm as I understand it, even though we had already adopted the M-9. Ontario Knife is a legit supplier. Good to have buddies like you! |
Surplus ones used to be $20 on ebay, but they are now $40+.
It is probably a better bayonet than the M9, but both should be a few inches longer IMHO. |

I have an Ontario.
He'll like it, heck you should've bought another for yourself. |
The M7 is what was issued to me, so that is of course my favorite.
As a bonus, it fits my midlength carbine and 590 equally well. |

I got one to go with my A2 clone build. Bought it off eBay. They have a ton of them in there, both new and used. I wanted a surplus one with rack number markings.

@Papaw What's your opinion on it as a utility knife when it's not attached to the end of an assault rifle? View Quote The blade's origins are as a trench/fighting knife, after all. |
If it doesn't go into a holster then it should have a bayonet.
I have one with Colt logo and Colt markings. Is that rare or unusual?
I like the m-7s and the new Marine one.
The m-7s are probably better at stabbing even though it's shorter. Spear point, narrow blade, with no serations to get stuck. As a field knife it works fine. It's what I was issued. You don't need much to cut open MREs. I did also use a sog seal pup and a kabar. |
I have bayonets for all of my milsurp rifles and a couple for my AK's but none for my AR's. I need to fix that.
Make sure you tell him to yell really loud and have a war face when he stabs with it
Gotta finally pull the trigger on one myself soon, or 2 an m7 and the okc Marine one. my kabar is lonely |

What's everyones feelings on the M7 bayonet versus the M9 bayonet?

I bought one from the government liquidation center but it won't fit my 590. It does fit on my AR though.

Sports Man Guide has used surplus M7 with Scabbard's for a little over $30 bucks right now, I ordered a couple last week, cleaned and sharpened and they are good to go.

Bought one at the CMP North store earlier this year for $40. New old stock wrapped in foil and boxed with a sheath since 1973.

There are lots of "fake" chicom and commercial M7 Bayo's out there
M7 will only mount properly on the rifle length barrel (not a carbine length barrel).. I believe..

It will mount just fine on a *proper* carbine barrel (14.5") just not our stupid civie/non-NFA version. View Quote I'm looking for an M9. I already have a couple Colt M7s that I've picked up over the years. one sits permanently on my Colt Sporter II HBAR. |

I thought it would be cool to get a beat up looking M9 just to keep.. but I realized that if I'm ever explaining to my unborn grandkids how I used one, saying "Pretty much only in parades" doesn't sound as cool..

Took an M7 with me to Iraq and Kuwait. Probably the only one in my company who actually had one.

Modern, paintable M10 Scabbard . Don't ruin older, collectible scabbards. For M-7 Bayonet and others similar.
Use MOLLE KBAR Adaptor, or ALICE Adaptor to mount to PALS platforms or ordinary belts. The K-BAR adaptor is more versatile IMHO. Bayonets from M1 Carbine, Late M1 Garand, M-14, and early M-16 should all fit this scabbard. DO shop around, as prices/shipping vary. M10 scabbards usually in black, some in Desert Tan; more expensive. K-Bar Adaptors in CB, OG, and DCU. ALICE Adaptors in OG and DCU. Disclaimer: no financial interest. |

You can just worm out the steel hanger to carry the old frog on your uniform belt.

Quoted: What's everyones feelings on the M7 bayonet versus the M9 bayonet? The OKC is very nice - I wish Ontario would offer it w/o the serrations. I bought one in Kuwait for my former Marine NCOIC, and have a pic of us together w/ crossed bayonets on our M4s. |
