ARFCOM 25 MOA ALL DAY Handgun Challenge 2019
This is the official "how good are you" handgun shooting thread for 2019. What is it? It’s a challenge to all to prove how good you really are with a handgun! Not sometimes but consistently. Note that it is a challenge of accuracy, not time. Keep it simple 15 shots at 25 yards. Shoot all 15 shots on 3 targets, 5 shots each. 25 MOA at 25 yards = ~6.545" 2014 Challenge: https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/-/5-1626899/ 2016 Challenge: https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/-/5-1900391/ 2018 Challenge: https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/-/5-2111194/ Divisions 1. Stock Rimfire: No modifications other than non-oem iron sights or grips. No rare, exotic, match, or limited run guns. Ask if you are unsure. 2. Open Rimfire: All mods allowed. Cannot be shoulder/cheek/sling supported while shooting. Hands only, brace cannot be attached to your arm. Pistol calibers only. 3. Stock Centerfire: No modifications other than non-oem iron sights or grips. No rare, exotic, match, or limited run guns. Ask if you are unsure. 4. Open Centerfire: All mods allowed. Cannot be shoulder/cheek/sling supported while shooting. Hands only, brace cannot be attached to your arm. Pistol calibers only. This is a challenge but don't be afraid to try it out and post. It's all in good fun and to be honest about your abilities. RULES 1. MUST USE OFFICIAL TARGETS Available here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!ArtmSnd1K8KxakyUx0hK119160c There are 2 versions, a 25 moa circle and a plain grid to make your own (e.g. stickers, drawings, etc) You must print the pdf "actual size" to ensure the picture prints the proper size. Please ensure that all shots prior to each string are taped and that there is plenty of target backer to show your ability. If I cannot determine that all five shots are on the paper, I may not count your entry. 2. Shoot 5 shots on each target. Make sure to label the targets with the proper information for each string. Please complete all three strings in a reasonable amount of time (e.g. no bathroom breaks... ). You must shoot the 15 shots consecutively. 3. All shots must be made at 25 yards. This must be verified via measuring tape, rangefinder, etc. 4. Each group is measured outside grease ring to outside grease ring with calipers or measuring tape in inches. I will do the MOA calculation when I input the data into excel. 5.The ONLY shooting positions accepted will be standing unsupported, either one hand or two. Make sure to mention how many hands you use. Do not lean on anything, rest your arms on anything, and no stiff shooting jackets. 6. Posting your entry requires 8 pictures. First: picture of your target setup at the range you are shooting. The picture must be taken at 25 yards. Second: Picture of target 1 with 5 shots and information filled in. Third: Picture of target 2 with 5 shots and information filled in. Fourth: Picture of target 3 with 5 shots and information filled in. Fifth: Picture of target 1 with 5 shots and information filled in and measuring device showing group size. Sixth: Picture of target 2 with 5 shots and information filled in and measuring device showing group size. Seventh: Picture of target 3 with 5 shots and information filled in and measuring device showing group size. Eighth: Picture of handgun. 7. Provide a brief explanation of the gun and ammo you used, shooting method, gun modifications, etc. 8. Include your final results in this format: Division - UserName - Handgun make/model - caliber - onehand/two hand - group 1 (in) - group 2 (in) - group 3 (in) 9. In each division you can only have your name up once per gun. Your best performance per gun will be shown. 10. Your score will be the average MOA from the three groups rounded to 2 decimal places. 11. I reserve the right to change anything regarding this challenge. 12. Prizes! If we reach at least 20 verified participants, prizes will be by random draw, excluding myself. Only 1 entry per person in the prize drawing no matter how many entries into the challenge. Aim Glock Barrel from Aim Surplus MidwayUSA $25 Gift Certificate Brownells Coda Evolution 15" Carbon Fiber Handguard Brownells Adjustable Gas Block SS .750 Brownells Micro Gas Block SS .750 Brownells Gemtech quickmount 1/2-28 Flash Hider More TBD No purchase/participation necessary for prizes. Alternative method of entry for the drawing is to hand write on wide-ruled notebook paper the entire US Constitution and amendments and mail it to me. Must include full name, address, phone, and ARF username. Contact me for mailing address. Must be received no later than 12/31/2019. If you do not respond to an ARF private message, you may be passed over for prize as specified below. Competition will run until 12/31/2019. Drawing will be 1/1/2020. If a prize winner does not respond by 1/8/2020, the prize will go to the next person on the list who didn't get a prize. If that person doesn't respond for a week, etc. Method of contact will be ARF private message. ---------- If it has nothing to do with this thread/challenge then please don't muck it up. And DON'T POST old targets, only post your results for this challenge for this year. This is for those that want to put up an honest effort and show what they can do! If you post a placeholder for a future attempt, be sure and notify me if you are not updated! If entries start coming in and you post your results back on an earlier page, I might miss it if you don't point it out. Feel free to link to this challenge in other threads where people post spurious claims of their tier 1 operator status with a handgun. Finally, please be honest! |

I’m in!
Two different handguns I have to use. Ruger 22/45 bull barrel iron sights with an improved trigger. M&P 9 FS iron sights with Apex trigger kit and Apex match barrel. They both count as stock or open? |

I'll do this but I'm a garbage handgun shot when it comes to absolute accuracy. Someone should volunteer to look at targets and interpret what we are doing wrong.
|
|
I'll do this some time in the upcoming weeks. Just FYI, I never got an "@" notification. Thanks again for taking the time to do this ducky.

Placeholder in case i can get out and do it
If i don’t update, i either couldn’t get out to the range or my results are too embarrassing to post publicly |

Place holder for this coming weekend.
Question, if my pistol came with an optic cut from the factory (FN), can I use my RMR'd pistol in stock centerfire division? |
|
I'm going to shoot one of my entries with my Ruger MK II Government Target. I believe it is stock with the exception of the Herrett match grips (which are an anatomical-type match grip as opposed to a grip that follows more OEM-style lines) see: http://www.herrettstocks.com/national.htm
Should I count that as a stock entry or an open entry? |
|
@LuckyDucky just so you know, there's a limit of mentions so not many of the big list above will get the mention. I didn't.

Do you have a deadline for this?
Waiting on a GSG 1911-22 to come in and no way will I try this with my Charter Arms pathfinder 22 snub |

"If I cannot determine that all five shots are on the paper, I may not count your entry. "
You gonna come plug them or overlay them? |

That target should come with a link to get free replacement printer cartridge. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/64530/A5E5918C-0473-43AF-A2E5-4B93D3EAE76F_png-942877.JPG View Quote |

I'll do this. I'll probably use my SR1911, I seem to shoot that the best. I don't usually shoot pistols at 25yds on my range so hopefully I am not complete crap.

I want to do this, even though I will suck, but I personally think it would be best if you specified an NRA stock target of some type, a 2-3" dot sticker, or other target that can be bought online instead of it being one that must be downloaded and printed. I don't have a printer that works and everybody I know always calls me because they don't have one.
I would be more than willing to send a USPS money or or a personal check to someone to print the targets and mail them to me. I want the opportunity to come in last, or near it. lol 30 years of shooting almost 100% 1911s, hides a lot of bad habits, there's just no time to make mistakes. I switched to an HKP30 LEM and cannot hit crap. I pick up a 1911 and I'm much better. I ordered a SA/DA P30 Friday after a year of suck, and shooting my son's P30L in SA/DA much better than my own. BTW, this is a placeholder if I can get targets. |
