Already bought the rifle.  It seems pretty well liked for what it is so not sure retarded is how most would describe it.

Can't I just mount a small section of rail on the handguard?

You need a gas block height front sight which will cost $$$. Just replace the whole thing with a YHM folding front sight/gas block or don't buy a retarded rifle in the first place.

EDIT: I see a bunch of options for folding and non-folding "gas block height" front sights.  Most are cheaper than the Mbus pro front sight.  This doesn't seem to be a huge issue or am I missing something?

Thanks

IS THE GAS BLOCK LOWER THAN THE RAIL? If so, PM me - I may be able to hook you up with a front sight from my parts bin.

FYI, as I recall the Armalite AR10 gas block front sight used a different height than "regular" gas block front sights, so while it's a .308 AR watch out for that potential pitfall.

That seems to be his MO across several forums. I thought his name looked familiar.

You are going to need a gas block height front sight.

Are you planning on running an optic or just irons?

I could put my ml-2 or a vx-2.

But initially I was just planning iron sights.

Thanks

No idea on the 308, but the 556 guns are plagued with issues. I wouldn't want one for free. I would just forget the irons and use a decent scope since it's a 308.

I read similar back in 11 to 13.  But recently couldnt find anything and nothing saying the 308 was to be avoided.  But plenty said they were good to go and the same happened when I started a thread asking for direct experience.

I have irons on all my ar rifles so definitely need a set of them.

But truth be told ive been eyeing up the ATN Thor hd for a primary optic.  Just started researching that though.

For gas block height, I like the Troy or Midwest BUIS.

I won't give any money to Troy, but the Midwest looks good to go.  Cheapest I can find is $76 shipped at OpticsPlanet.  Can it be had cheaper elsewhere?

Thanks

I've read Troy with LaRue several times in different threads.  But I still don't understand it.  Is LaRue owned by Troy or Troy by LaRue?  Do they have some joint business together?

Thanks

Ended up buying a 2" section of Magpul rail and a set of MBUS.  I figure I'll mount the rail on the front of the stock handguard and put the MBUS on that.
