I'm a millennial, and all I give a fuck about is driving my big rig and providing for my myself, my girlfriend and our future family... The boomers and the rest of the millennials and zoomers can gas each other for all I care.

There has only ever been one politician in my life that actually tried to do what I voted for him to do..
And millennials hated him more than anything on the planet for it. |

I'm a "Boomer" and life wasn't easy for a lot of my cohort. Has anyone in the past 30 years had to pay 18%APR for a house loan (20% down, of course)? Well we did without until mortgage rates were reasonable and then we bought a home. You young'uns have had it pretty easy, is all I'm going to say.

I can remember in my mid 20’s where the same line of BS going on between the Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation (aka Greatest Generation later popularized by Tom Brokaw of NBC news who wrote a book that was titled The Greatest Generation ). We Boomers thought we would never see a dime from Social Security, well we were wrong. The fund is still solvent.
It is notable that the Boomers did not come to power until 1993 with the election of Bill Clinton. Until then the powers invested in the Silent Generation, not the Baby Boomers. Bill Clinton was not interested in increasing Social Security withholding because of his promise not to raise the taxes on the middle class; additionally he was to busy spending the “Peace Dividend” from the end of the Cold War on social programs other than Social Security designed to buy votes and pay off the Democrat Party faithful. Robert B. Reich was Bill Clinton’s Economic Advisor. Republicans had a primary agenda of increasing withholdings to make sure the trust fund was solvent and stopping the borrowing against it by the Federal Government which was started by LBJ to finance his and JFK’s Vietnam war. Under GW Bush he had a legislation agenda to raise the withholding rate; but the Democrats went on a full blown campaign asserting that the Republicans were going to destroy Social Security as one of the possible plans included allowing for self direction of you contributions. Then along came 9/11 and the focus of the country was the Global War on Terror. The Millennials also should share blame too. As they actively support the Democrats and wanted an increase to other social programs which greatly expanded benefits. If you want to blame someone, you would need to spread the blame to the Democrat Party, the Silent Generation, a specific group of the Baby Boomers, the Millennials, and Gen X. It is a big shit sandwich and everyone needs to take a bite. |

Is this the thread where boomers and millennials sit around yelling at each other, and try to pretend they aren't both part of a generation that marched the county in the same direction, right off a fucking cliff?

Quoted: So "boomers" are to blame no matter HOW they voted. Ok. How is that different from YOU in today's world? Did you vote? If so, no matter HOW you voted, YOU are responsible. Quoted: Yes they did. I was born 25 years too late. View Quote Those of us who were simply fortunate to have grown up during the Golden Age of America also are fully aware that it existed because of conditions that would not be tolerated today, such as total government/police power/control and a completely exclusive society. Today's ills have their roots in early communism/socialism that because of that total control, could never gain a foothold here until the left began to foster a culture of permissiveness, which first manifested as the 'Beatnik' movement in the late '50s, morphing into the 'Hippie' movement of the late '60s and so on until the current 'woke' movement. Now the pot is really boiling and the whining of those who actually believe that their woes are the result of whatever actions by the older generation will soon be eclipsed by the agony of real strife as conflicting cultures collide. |
