I respect my LDS friends and agree with the "their house - their rules" sentiment.
But, I have a real problem when a bunch of guys (Prophet and Apostles) who are protected by armed security tell me that I cannot be armed. Kind of sounds like the logic used by many politicians. |

I've been LDS for 17 years the have y never allowed firearms in the chapels.
the church has been remarkably static over the last 20 years very little change in doctrine pr policy. The biggest difference I can think of is cola is not as frowned upon as it was in 1993. |

Great kudos to my fellow LDS members who have persevered in this thread and, better than I, have presented fact in a calm manner in spite of the all too common complete ignorance and intentional misinformation spreaders.

Many saints, from antiquity to the present day have received sanctioned revelations or directions - none have needed ' magic stones' to see them or indulged in such material nonsense as dicta about underwear. It would have been a damned sight easier for Moron to deliver the golden tablets and magic stone glasses and underwear to Phillip the Fair at Clements papal consecration and ensured a probably Christian world. But that would have been too easy. |

Quoted:
Not really different from most churches.. my parents Baptist church has the same policy but it's generally understood concealed means concealed and everyone knows people carry. The real problem is a lot of Mormons are non confrontational and if the SHTF as they prep for, they won't be prepared to do what needs to be done. I remember talking to my Mormon father in law about it, and I'll never forget what he said. I asked him what he would do if a bunch of people attacked them for their food preps and he thought for a second and said well I would share what I have.. I asked him why he would do that because it's literally taking food out of his family's mouth, and he just said he couldn't ever see himself killing anyone even if they would kill him. I just sat there thinking "why even have a gun then??" View Quote I can understand judiciously helping others in need as long as you have enough supplies, but I certainly wouldn't be offering to help everyone that had their hand out. Giving aid to someone who will just squander it is wasteful, in my opinion. I've also had a discussion somewhat similar to yours with a former coworker, though he was on the opposite side of the scenario. He openly spoke about his plan to simply take what he needed in a SHTF scenario, and thought he would just simply take the guns, ammo, and food from those who stockpiled them. I tried to explain to him that those who stockpiled guns and ammo in addition to food likely did so with the specific intent of shooting people like him in the face, should he try to take their supplies by force. If S really did HTF, all I really want to do is hunker down, stay warm and fed, and protect my family from those who might do us harm. I have to imagine, or at least hope, that your father-in-law is in the minority. I'd like to think that most people who prep, regardless of reason or religion, would have the proper mindset to defend themselves as needed. |

Stating something as a fact and then backing up with “I was just speculating” when called on it absolutely is making stuff up. If I were to say that Joseph Smith’s visions were the result of an LSD fueled rager he had the night before, and then said I was “just speculating” after pulling obvious nonsense out of my posterior would you conclude I was just engaging in some harmless “speculating and postulating.” |
