You know, that character is rather infamous for scaring the crap out of a whole generation of kids. For such a lighthearted, family-oriented comedy movie with such cartoonish villains, that particular one was dark as heck.

I was on COVID quarantine back in January and actually watched it all the way through. It was interesting trying to decode as a grown-up why that character was so scary when I was a kid. I can remember not wanting to watch that movie again as a kid for fear that I would have nightmares about him.

And ironically they say the actor was one of the nicest guys ever.

LOL, this. Glad I'm not the only one.
I saw plenty of gore and horror films as a kid, but this scene in E.T. almost had be shitting my drawers for some reason.

The tail code on that F-4 just says “F.” Which should designate it as French.

But I can’t find any record of France running the Phantom. Anyone have any info?

As a kid, The Gate, and the scene at the end of Raiders of The Lost Ark when they opened the ark and the angel's faces turned to skulls and then the nazi's faces melted off.

As a young adult, The Ring, Event Horizon, and The Blair Witch Project were all very creepy.

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining, is it snowing?
Is a hurricane a-blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of Hell a-glowing?
Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes! The danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing!

Didn't know there were versions, but yes? The rape was while she was asleep, not as bad as watching the scene were she's pinned spread eagle on the bed after the old man boyfriend walks out of the bathroom and she's being molested with invisble hands IMO.

I was spared from all of that by having only seen the edited version on TV when I was kid. I didn't see the full, unedited version until I was an adult.

I caught this on some late night horror movie show when I was 8-9 and it scared the hell out of me. The part where the friend is talking about the guy buried in the basement wall and then the corpse fucking bursts out. I watch it now and it's silly but it definitely wasn't back then. My wife watches like murder porn based on actual events but gets scared of some of the supernatural shit, and I'm like "You realize you're more likely to get killed by some asshole that didn't take their meds than by Freddy Krueger right?" Movies like "The Strangers" bother me more than any slasher movies.

I had a nightmare about werewolves when we first moved into our new place the next day I asked my wife if she had any silver jewelry and she said yes and I was like "ok I could probably melt that down and fill my hollowpoints so we're good." I haven't had any werewolf nightmares since .

Jaws also scared the bejesus out of me . I don’t think I went swimming for 3 years after that movie. Even in a pool

Yeah, I hear ya, brother.

You take Jaws, which scares the crap out of you and then you watch a James Bond movie to take your mind off of Jaws.

And all of a sudden you have to worry about underwater doors opening up to let a great white loose in every pool you swim in that has a deep end.

No water was safe from shark attack in the 70’s and 80’s.

If I was a little kid when those Sharknado movies came out, ida ever left the house.

Taken to see the original Night of the Living Dead at a drive in by a babysitter and her boyfriend when it first came out. Scared the shit out of a seven year old.
Every night for a long time when I went to bed, I would sit at my bedroom window and watch out for the zombies.

I honestly don't remember what age I was, I just remember reading it, I wanna say mid 80's.

And then I re-remembered it when The Hunger Games came out because when the premise was explained to me I tried to tell people that that was a rip-off of The Lottery and no one knew wtf I was talking about.

Trilogy of Terror.
I was a little kid getting ready for bed. My mom calls me from the living room to come look at this on TV. I go and see that goddamn Zuni fetish doll chasing Karen Black with a knife and freak the fuck out. She gets pissed and starts screaming at me because now I don't want to go to bed, because I KNOW that fucking doll is waiting for me in my dreams.  What the Hell did you think was going to happen, lady?

I cannot for the life of me remember what the movie is called, or what it is about.  I was probably about 6 years old (1996) when I watched it.  Pretty sure it was not a new movie at the time though.  What I remember is it had really creepy old timey music and I think some evil male red headed kid.   Quite possible something to do with ghosts or something paranormal.  The only other thing I recall is a scene with a hallway.  Looking down this hallway the viewer sees a turn that goes to the right.  The hall continues forward.  There may have been a turn that went left but I don't remember.  There was also a table that I think had a vase with flowers on it.

Here is a crude MS Paint for reference.

Oh boy.

I was 8 or 9 when I saw that. It was a fun movie until my damn dog tried to jump up on my bed in the middle of the night on the same day I saw it. Screamed like a little bitch, woke everyone up, dad came in packing heat, it was a clusterfuck. Dad was not pleased. And no, the dog was not shot.

I liked was Godzilla when I was a kid, so Mom and Dad let me rent Godzilla 1985 one night.  I had seen a lot of the older Godzilla movies, but I hadn't seen the 1985 version.  I was probably 7 or so.

What I didn't know then was that the 60s and 70s Godzilla movies were intended to be fun kids' monster movies, while Godzilla 1985 turned him back into a big terrorizing monster.

Anyways, there's a scene early in the movie where a guy boards a ghost ship, and there's this jump scare where the guy spins around a chair and there's this corpse with all its skin burned off.  I flipped out.  I think I screamed or ran into the other room where my parents were watching TV.  I didn't finish that VHS tape
