There’s a blinking IR strobe on the main electrical panel for the yard that I can’t figure out. On the meter. The stars… wow. Wow is all I have to say. I wish I had pulled this out for the Aurora the other night. I’m looking forward to start running and gunning under NODs, but for now I’m just getting comfortable moving around the environment. When I strap on my cheap bump helmet, the tube sits low, and slightly tilted up. It’s off my eye just enough that the field of view is slightly out of round, and I need to tilt my head slightly downward to view the horizon. There’s not an obvious way to adjust the tube to my eye. I’ll be shopping for a higher quality helmet soon, but I want to figure out what to look for by testing what I don’t want first. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/590787/image_jpg-3659788.JPG Appreciate your business on the PVS14, thanks again. There is some adjustment as to angle on the military/Carson J arm but honestly it's a PITA. Also, looks like an old skewl early Rhino mount, which IIRC doesn't have the same amount of adjustment a newer mount like a Norotos Lo sto will have. The manual that came with your 14 will describe how to adjust the military J arm if you decide to keep it. Run the unit as far out from your eye as you can, don't put on the rubber eye cup. This will help with fogging. Going to a Norotos Lo sto mount and a AX14 or Max14 pro arm will allow more adjustment, allow you to quickly move the unit from one eye to the other. The Norotos Lo sto is going to offer more adjustment, stow the NOD tighter to the helmet and is "force to overcome" versus the push button to release of a g24. Both are here- JRH Enterprises- NV, mounts, accessories The passive aiming with the opposite side may take a little getting used to unless you move the arm to that side. Remember to keep your head more erect- don't bend your neck over ("Turkey necking") to the stock. As always feel free to reach out if you have questions. Thanks again. |

I can't imagine a situation in the US where I would need to passively shoot someone in self defense, but considering it was ~$100 for a dot that works with NV (and is a back up if the scope breaks) that's not all bad. Currently thinking about adding some night capacity to other stuff after this afternoon we literally had a power outage and the whole house went black. Quoted: Modern tubes beat the snot out of older generation stuff and even the digitals like the Sionyx opsin. I currently have a sionyx and it's 'okay' but nowhere near ideal for anything outside of supplemental IR or bright nights under a full moon. You can get decent specs on gen 2 stuff from TNVC, but unfilmed white phosphor gen 3 seems to the the $$$ hot stuff. You can get things like an ECOTI to add thermal overlay to a PVS-14, etc. I'm looking at (once I can afford one) just getting one of the gen 2 from TNVC and upgrading the tube later. You just to be able to get really well reviewed chinese nods like the Jerry 14 for a song, but I think they've been discontinued. Thank you for the business.! My first time using NODS was in 1992 with a Gen 2 monocular for surveillance stuff. We started the NV FAQ forum here on the ARF back in 2003. The NV Tech forum is still alive and well today! I now use NV for a lot of astronomy stuff, which is amazing as other users have talked about here. I still get excited at our training events when someone peers into NV for the first time! It still a hobby of mine today after all these years. Many things have come and gone, but not my NODS. |

If they don't have enough spares to last them the rest of their lives before they can't get any more because they're banned, they're not wrong IMO. Night vision will hopefully be way down the line of bans. |

Personally got rid of the top dot on my LPVO setups. Passive aiming is cool with a red dot and the magnifier removed, but just seemed clunky with the LPVO and having that much going on underneath/behind the MRDS. And having no top dot makes the setup cleaner with a tall LPVO mount, which feels better while wearing something that has a chin strap (like night vision with the dominant eye folded up to look through the scope). I may just be bad at passive shooting though. |

The electrical panel has something to do with the remote/wireless reader the company uses, I suppose, mine does it too. My outdoor cameras pick up IR. It’s amazing all the shit people have that emits IR, I can see people coming blocks away. I had to put tape over my Ecobee because of the IR. My F150’s cabin will light up every so often, especially just after locking it. There is a reason Garmin Tactix watches have a Stealth mode. |

You can get a knockoff Wilcox mount for under $100. I have two. They are ok. They work well enough except the dovetail lockup can be a bit sticky. | I have wanted nods for years. I could buy them if I just tightened up a few things for a month or two. But I know I would never use them. I don’t larp. I don’t have a group of friends nearby to use them with. My best friend bought them two months ago and loves them but he lives 12 hours away so again, no one to use them with. I don’t have an exciting job anymore that I could use them for. I want them but I just don’t think it’s a wise investment for me at this time. As others have already said, one of the biggest things for comfort with nods is having a good counterweight. You want your helmet to be balanced front/back. You can start by weighing your nods and mount and adding that much as a counterweight to the back. You can buy a really nice adjustable counterweight system or you can just add a small pouch with lead fishing weights. If the weight is very off center it will fatigue your neck muscles much faster and you will constantly be adjusting your tubes as they move around. Getting comfortable moving around under nods just takes time and practice. If you have your focus adjusted to infinity everything within a few feet will be out of focus. You will adjust to looking further ahead of you as you walk to anticipate obstacles. Also, with a single tube vs duals it will take you longer for your brain to adjust to limited depth perception. |
