My youngest son said something today as I was driving that just knocked my socks off. I am usually a skeptic about stuff like this, but it left me really scratching my head.

Cool story, bro and all that...

I would take your son seriously, this is actually a fairly well known but misunderstood phenomenon. There was a fairly in depth study of a child in Great Britain who remembered a past life very vividly, to the point he remembered his "first family" the location of their old home, and even talked about desperately missing his "other mom". He even remembered their first and last names. As he grew older, the memories faded and he stopped talking about it as often, and eventually dropped the idea all together. I really believe kids are more open to alternate realities and what not, possibly due to their innocence and lack of pre conceived ideas about reality. When my grandmother died in 2006, my 3 year old niece pointed at the ceiling when she passed, and said "look at all the angels coming to take Grandma home".

I believe this. We are all recycled but as adults we are 100% involved/absorbed in
our current lives.
Children are still close to their former lives and those memories arise from time
to time. Eventually they are consumed with their current life. The former fades away.

New Age mysticism is a demonic counterfeit.

His "uncanny spiritual experiences" led him away from a relationship with God and into the church of Self--as it was intended to.

There was likely grave sin and/or pridefulness beforehand, which opened the door to the deception--and then the deception takes root as the "truth".

It is a powerful trap, because it is reinforced with supernatural phenomena.

Weird shit happens. Don't discount it just because we can't explain it.  On the morning of 9/11, I woke up crying from a nightmare; in my dream, I was in a building surrounded by families who were being told that their loved ones had been killed during a plane crash.  I remember thinking in the dream that so many people dying must have meant that more than one plane crashed; there were thousands of people crying and wailing.  About 40 minutes after I woke up from that dream, the first plane hit the WTC.  I don't generally even remember my dreams, much less wake up from them crying.  It's one of those things I can't explain and I wouldn't probably believe someone else who told me that, but I know it happened so I have to.  Go figure.

I was at the Pohakuloa Training Area on the big island for gunnery, asleep in my rack.  At approx. 3am I was awakened by a loud clap type sound, like a door slamming but it felt like thunder to me.  I was awake for the remainder of the morning, and around 5:30 I got up to shit and get ready for chow.  Eating breakfast, I remember some other guys talking about planes hitting the world trade center.  I passed it off as a movie or video game or something until I went outside and saw people standing around the chaplain.  He was relaying the events happening in New York and back at Schofield Barracks, how everyone was setting up barriers and running concertina wire around the gates.  When I asked around nobody else had heard or felt the noise I did, which would have coincided time wise with the second plane impacting at 9am.

When I was very young (3 to 4 years old), my nightmares were about dinosaurs chasing me.  I was too young to know anything about dinosaurs, and I doubt I had ever been exposed to them.

Most likely someone discussed that in front of him and he latched onto the fact.

Adults often talk with children around, not thinking that they are listening or even forgetting they talked about a particular subject.  But the kids soak it up.

He pulled it out and phrased it in an odd manner and suddenly it's some kind of psychic link?  I don't think so.

That's not as fun as miracle toddlers spouting profound wisdom.

GD never lacks for slings and arrows. Surely it's true that, since you've never experienced a certain thing, nobody else could possibly have, either.

Oh I meant no disrespect and in fact found the story interesting and thought provoking.
I meant to simply convey that the ol " kid heard it somewhere" theory wasn't nearly as interesting as a reborn soul.

Genetic memory may be a thing, possibly even likely in my opinion. However, that does not explain children who recall very specific events leading to their deaths in a possible past life. Anything genetic would have been passed at the time of conception, and thus necessarily  anything relating to a person's death could not have passed through that mechanism. Just food for thought.

Being I lean to Buddhism, I fully believe in recarnation/rebirth. It is uncanny when Tibetan Buddhists are looking for a Lama who has been reborn and they think they have found the child. There are tests administered, such as a HUGE table covered with identitical items, but one set is that of the old Lama, and the child will go right to that set and say "Mine!!".  This is without coaching or any sort of cues.

I think there is something to it.

When I was about 4 my dad was stationed at Norfolk we went to a family day type dog and pony show at Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek. They had static displays of various amtracks, jeeps, tanks etc. There was a M60 tank there and I got to stand in the TC hatch with a CVC helmet on. There is a picture of me throwing a fit, face red and crying. My folks tell me I didn't want to leave the tank, I loved the tank and that it was the tank wrong color. I told them it should have been grey.

The Buddhist view is not of reincarnation, but of rebirth. You are reborn over and over again though not necessarily as the same person, or even species. It is a great privilege to be born as a human.

"Rebirth in Buddhism is the doctrine that the evolving consciousness or stream of consciousness upon death becomes one of the contributing causes for the arising of a new aggregation. The consciousness in the new person is neither identical nor entirely different from that in the deceased but the two form a causal continuum or stream."

Still looking for older pics in the Seattle photo archives, but the story is starting to check out more and more. This was right where Jake uttered his statement--kitty corner from where the old lumber yard my grand-family would have worked in from around the late 1940s to the 1960s. Apparently, this was a place my dad has been to as a boy and they often got bread here when under different ownership.

That's actually pretty interesting that there is a potential autism connection.

Honestly, even I didn't know where this lot was until today, so the fact that he pointed the area out to me is quite noteworthy. I think I am going to go to the place without the kids and ask if they have any old pictures of the building. THEN I might bring him in for a loaf of bread without making it into anything special...
