[ARCHIVED THREAD] - My wife filed for divorce (Page 3 of 3)

Good job. You beat the culture of quitting. Ive been friends with the same 11 guys since grade school in Philly. None of them, including me is divorced. It just amazes me that the statistics are 50/50. Marriage is hard, parenting is hard, life is hard. More people need to fight through the bad times- it's worth it. We live in a selfish, instant gratification and disposable world. It accounts for many of our problems. |
| Well done, sir. We had a serious bump in the road several years back. We received mentorship through a wiser couple from our church, the fellowship made all of the difference. I hope that you’re able to help other couples through their issues, people seem to throw the towel in too early, I’m glad you stuck it out. |

Quoted: Sorry. Yeah, we worked it out. Or I should say that we're still working it out ![]() Well said. Being married for me is constantly compromising and forgiving and forgetting the occasional hurtful moment. I'm sure my wife has done that many times, as well. Congratulations on working it out. |

Quoted: Just got around to watching that. Man, I'm choked up now Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Hopefully you can forgive me for forgoing the gory details, but as far as overcoming, we began moving in the right direction by attending a program called Re-engage. It was hosted by a megachurch near us. I was providing absolutely no spiritual leadership in my household at the time, and in the absence of that, I believe that my wife truly felt like she was doing the right thing by filing. As I started to understand that I could never exercise right leadership without putting myself under the authority of a benevolent, loving, sovereign God, things began to fall in line. When I learned that I could trust him, and that he is good, I started to let go of the lie that I was ultimately in charge. I began to comprehend the example of Jesus as servant/leader. The story of the faith of the Centurion helped me immensely. Maybe this all comes off as churchy, but for me, it is reality. It was the "natural man" governing my family, a man who knew very little about spiritual things, and who, as I said, was blindly leading the household toward destruction. Plus, Marriage Bootcamp cost $2,000, and I'm skeptical (especially now) that it would've helped. The church charged us 50 bucks for the Re-engage study guide, and they probably would've just given it to us ![]() Awesome testimony, OP. Above read like a real life example of the end scene from Courageous. Yeah. I’ve seen it a number of times and it still gets me. Excellent movie. Throws down the gauntlet to men/fathers. |
