When I lived in New Orleans, I used to hear what sounded like canon fire while in my home. It wasn't subtle either. It sounded like an artillery battle. I'd turn off the TV, no other possibility of anything making that noise in the house.
I'd step outside and hear... nothing. Go back inside, artillery barrage. I came to believe it was some kind of weird paranormal thing. I lived within earshot of the Chalmette battle field where the British landed and were trounced by the locals and Andrew Jackson. |

Here in WA several people heard a "big explosion" a few years ago that was actually an earthquake deep underground. The Juan de Fuca fault line here is different than California's but might create similar effects. |

Maybe somebody lighting off some acetylene for shits and giggles?
Carbide lamps let off a pretty decent pop when they light, and that’s just a cupped hand over a little disk in volume. I’d imagine a balloon or paper sack of acetylene would give a pretty substantial report and flash while generating no fragmentation or real damage… basically no evidence left behind other than a little trash. |

I’m pretty far from there but it happened in my area about a month ago. I could feel the shockwave move thru my house. I thought it might have been a meteor. We have fireworks randomly also but this was not a firework.

We had this going on for at least a year. Usually started around 11 at night and went on intermittently until early AM.
Most people blamed a sand and gravel quarry a few miles away but I think it was deep in the woods behind my house. Never was solved. |
