It’s an old people thing.

We had a Lear 45 that needed paint 2 years ago and they took the rather modern and nice paint job and changed it to 80’s straight lines and terribly boring tail numbers. All the colors suck and the design is amateur looking.

All of this was because they wanted it to look like our past (and older) planes with similar terrible paint jobs.

Trump will likely never even use the new plane.  It is not scheduled for delivery until 2024.

The important improvement is all the crap they hopefully upgraded inside.  These planes are from the late 80s and rarely get lengthy overhauls.

8000 and 9000 get lengthy overhauls every 18 months or so and have been getting them since they were put into service.  Work used to be done at Wichita now its down at San Antonio.

The PAG needs to get away from maintaining everything like a "flying museum" and keep things modern.

Looks okay to me, but I'm not picky.
I WOULD like to know the engine specs., which are classified information.
After 9-11,  Air Force One was said to have climbed like a Rocket after take off.
Versus the civilian model.

Its a 747-200 with 400 engines. Not classified, and it’s handed out with fact sheets during tours regularly. Tens of thousands of those floating around

The current livery is based off Jackie O's design for AF1. Robins Egg Blue and blue pastel paints are straight up early 1960's designs that we shouldn't be using.  The PAG has stuck with it across multiple iterations of AF1's because of tradition.  Just because that's how something has always been done doesn't mean it has to always be that way.

I would be shocked to learn that was actually the case.  Its performance is more likely a factor of it usually flying rather short hops for a 747 and thus is a lot lower on fuel than most of its compatriots are.

I would think durability and reliability are more important than raw power in this situation.  Plus, I think the AF1 configuration is much lighter than any freighter or commuter jet, so they have a really good thrust to weight ratio.

I would have preferred an evolution of the current design; darker blues and the addition of red (like replacing that central white length section with red)
