Quoted: Nothing looks as deep as the good ole toxic stuff. PPG? Piss poor gloss is more like it. How do they sand/polish that rubbery shit? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Dad did a 1955 BelAir back in the 80's for a customer and it was done in black nitrocellulose lacquer. I distinctly remember that he had over a full month in hand rubbing the car before he started installing the trim. The customer damn near shit himself when he got the bill, but it won Best Paint at the CCCI Nationals that year. The final polish was with fresh, new cloth baby diapers and corn starch. Nothing looks as deep as the good ole toxic stuff. PPG? Piss poor gloss is more like it. How do they sand/polish that rubbery shit? Back in those days we were using Sherwin Williams but now we use PPG. Not sure for how much longer though, because I sprayed nearly $500 worth of PPG DP series epoxy primer last week and it still hasn't cured properly. I'll be on the phone with the southeast PPG rep first thing Monday morning to find some kind of resolution to this freaking mess. |

I think Replacement Tom needs to review the subtle differences between a Pit and just "ramming."

Quoted: Aw, jeez I was using the used disposable baby diapers on my CR-V now I know where I went wrong. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Trust me, I completely understand. When I was young my dad had a customer who had an amazing collection of 50's and 60's Chevrolet cars, all of which were black. I learned at a very early age about the "joys" of keeping a black car looking good. I might try to scan a few photos next week to share. Getting a black lacquer finish right on a guitar is tough, too. I hate black. (I'm talking about nitrocellulose lacquer). Dad did a 1955 BelAir back in the 80's for a customer and it was done in black nitrocellulose lacquer. I distinctly remember that he had over a full month in hand rubbing the car before he started installing the trim. The customer damn near shit himself when he got the bill, but it won Best Paint at the CCCI Nationals that year. The final polish was with fresh, new cloth baby diapers and corn starch. No joke, I remember him having my mom wash them after he'd used them once, and even with fabric softener they'd still have enough abrasiveness after one wash that they's leave microscopic scratches in the paint. He quickly realized that one use was all he'd get out of them, and I doubt you can even buy cloth baby diapers these days. |
