Quoted: My boss didn’t want me to rent a car, so I called a taxi. I hope this is the most expensive taxi in the world. View Quote Your boss is cheap and too dumb to consider the cost to the company of your time when mandating things to save a few bucks that waste your time (and therefore their money). Wife's new employer tried telling her their policy was for "all employees" to fly coach for flights less than 6 hours (meaning that was the policy she was supposed to follow and her admin tried to follow it), she told them if I do that I will need an extra day to catch up on sleep from the redeye and prepare for the meeting... a day of her time is worth way more than the difference between coach and business class flights. I bet the CEO doesn't fly coach either because his time is finite and every minute of every day of his time is worth a lot to the company. It's not elitist, it getting as much value as you can out of your employees. |

It’s not like I’d be doing billable work at the hotel tonight. It’s just less sleep for the thing tomorrow. At least I don’t have to be downstairs til 9.

When I lived in NH and MA I always planned on going back to London when the Queen passed to pay my respects.
Now I am further away, constrained by the kids school schedule, and my wife having a week long team meeting next week, so I have accepted I can't go. I even considered flying Friday, arriving Saturday lunchtime, immediately going to Westminster Hall and queueing as long as necessary to pay my respects then flying home Sunday without seeing the funeral service but the lines then could be so long that I line up for nothing and run out of time. I will regret not going for the rest of my life. Just venting. |

View Quote Your life would still have been easier if you had a rental car, you would be more prepared for the thing tomorrow. At my wife's level it's get to the hotel, answer hours of emails if you couldn't do it on the plane, have dinner with the local team for 3-4 hours because they all want to talk to you, prepare for the meeting tomorrow if you didn't get to do that on the plane, sleep? up at 6 for calls with the US then out the door at 8 for a full day of meetings before heading to the next country or back home. |
