I was getting there. Place holder from my phone so I could type it out. Anyway, took it out again. Its good enough for hunting with the 123 Hornady SST. When it gets hot, it isn't happy. So, clockwise from upper left: SST, Berger 130s on Federal, Wolf Military, 90 Grain American Eagle and Hornady Black (what I used to zero) in the middle. The other 3 groups were a more rapid fire starting with SST center, Berger upper right and then Black upper left. The 130 Berger showed a nice group but I don't know where the flyer came from. The vertical stringing on the SST was a surprise. If I were shooting a scope made for precision I think I could tighten up some more. Right now I am using a Leupold 3-9 VX-R Patrol which I am going to stick with. Thick stadia lines and 9X max isn't the best, but it will be good enough for hunting. So I have a maybe 300 yard Deer rifle that is lightweight. About 200 dollars in Ammo through the thing now. It is a lot of fun to shoot and throws out 123 grains with very little recoil with an A2 birdcage on it. Great for my kids, who it is for anyway. Deer hunt planned for January, so we will see how it goes. View Quote She was the reason I built mine. |

Just curious for those who shot Wolf in their Grendels, what does your groups look like at 100 yards? I'm wondering if I have a bad lot and should attempt to purchase another case. I shot them in both my 18" JP Enterprise barrel and Faxon 12" barrel with terrible results. View Quote Wolf ammo... Attached File |

Sst is a tipped bullet and marketed as suitable for hinting.
Bthp is usually not recommended for hunting due to "icepicking" but I haven't heard about this particular load/bullet- so will defer to those who have shot things with it. Edit: I remember shooting 7.62x39 123 grain hp into gel and water and it did nothing but yaw and leave a skinny hole and over penetrate. |

Brownells has everything Faxon Firearms on sale right now, including Grendel barrels. Use code "H7L" to take another $20 off a $200 order. I got the 16" match series 6.5 gunner barrel for ~$170 with the code by adding some other odds and ends on the order to get it over $200. I also got the 15" carbon fiber hand guard for $260 shipped using the same code on a separate order.

Have absolutely no need for it, but picked up a Howa 20" w/green stock last week. Great little rifle for banging around. Not sure if I'll have son use it or one of the 2 Grendel ARs for deer this year.

Most rifle bthp is made that way for accuracy and not terminal ballistics. Not like pistol bullets View Quote A picture of the actual round would do much to answer a fairly simple question. Not that 30 cents per round is that big a deal. |

Is it loose ammo in the box or individually-boxed inside?
Pics of inside/ammo would be nice. Same for COL of the rounds. Maybe I should head to Sportsman's myself. I have 2 of them within 15 minutes of me. ETA: You updated as I was typing. |

They had a bunch of 223 and 6.8spc in those cases on the shelf but no grendelski.
Was about to leave but asked a worker. He went back in back and got one for me. Said they just came in . |

I picked up a box of the new gunner ammo today. I'm not a big fan of measuring COAL, especially for HP's, other than to make sure the cartridge will fit in a mag. I much prefer to measure base-to-ogive. I grabbed 10 random ones and these are what they measured:
1.6955 1.695 1.696 1.6925 1.6965 1.696 1.6955 1.6955 1.697 1.696 For comparison's sake the Hornady Black ammo with the 123 ELD measures ~1.664. Was kinda surprised to see the gunner stuff with the ogive that much farther out. |

My Sportsmans has at least five boxes of the American Gunner ammo. Maybe more.
And two real dusty boxes of 6.8 SPC II. |

There was a thread recently talking about hunting calibers for the AR. The 6.5 was talked about and it showed some impressive (but unverified) ballistics. I was thinking about it yesterday while sitting in my blind and last night I decided to see what PSA had in uppers. Nope. I jump over to BCM. Nope. Head to Spikes. Nope. Bushmaster? Nope. Rock River, Larue, Noveske? Nope, nope, nope. It seems nobody chambers this round in their rifles save for a couple of no-name off brands I've never heard of. If it's all that and a bag of chips, why doesn't anyone care to chamber a rifle for it? View Quote In my opinion, You are talking about more of a consumer sales question, then a validity of a caliber question. The 6.5 not being sold is less about whether or not the cartridge is good and more about business decisions based on consumer demand. I think its probably for the same reasons that happens with most new products (either good or bad) that never take off... Its the public demand isn't high enough for the companies to bother investing in stocking or making a new product when there isn't a demand for it from the consumer and those same companies aren't having trouble selling the ones they already produce. If a large percentage of prospective customers where moving away from more common calibers and only buying 6.5 Grendel, then the companies who sell common calibers now would start carrying 6.5 Grendel. Its a self generated cycle though, as I would imagine most prospective 6.5 grendel customers end up sticking with more common calibers due to the availability of parts and ammo... and the companies making the more widely available parts and ammo stick with the calibers because the consumers do. |

Finally got around to shooting my 12 inch faxon barrel & zeroing a scope. Didn't take any pictures but it was shooting tight groups with Federal Fusion, all rounds touching each other at 100 yards.
