Are you thinking of Ft Calhoun? I hauled some stuff up there and to Vermont Yankee. Both were supposed to be green field when done. The stuff I hauled to Vermont was one time use containers so no UN or rad shipper papers. That was nice.

Probably not a lot of lead, if any.  The High Level Waste caskets that are (were?) made in north AL were SS outside lining and a Carbon steel inner (or vice versa, don't recall) with rebar and high density concrete in between.

Not to say this is a HLW container, it isn't: the lid is latched instead of welded shut.  Plus, I don't think they move HLW much offsite the plant anymore.  There is a closed nuclear power plant somewhere in the NE.  The plant has been demolished and the site has been turned into a Green Field.  About a 1/2 mile south, inside a little fenced area, are 6 HLW containers/casks with all the HLW the plant produced.  Don't recall it's name but it's pretty visible via GE.  Dr. David, nuclear physicist with U of IL discusses it in one of his videos.

I don't recall the power plant name, sorry.  But it shows as a literal "green field" on GE; so it's not either of the two you mentioned.  Those plants may be closed, but the facilities are still there.

The last shipment I did for a significant amount of Californium 252 I expected some young guy with a glock on his hip and tough pitbull (NOPE!)

The trucker was so large and round, he could barely teeter to the back of his truck and use a stairs (not ladder) to get to our loading dock.

A stiff breeze could have knocked the dude over and not joking, this guy could have been an easy target, I thought those hauling such things would be in better shape.

Garbage.

There is garbage inside of that container. There is a facility in Oak Ridge, with a giant-ass compactor, they take rad (and, occasionally other) contaminated garbage from other places, melt and compact it, and then ship it for burial.

If the tractor says 'Hittman Transportation' 95% chance it came from, or is going to, Oak Ridge.

Most likely no escorts, because there is no threat to the public and no proliferation concerns.

That is *not* a weapons shipment, or anything to do with the 'nuclear couriers'.

Yep, that's exactly who takes our shit. I'd bet dollars to donuts that came from my place. And as noted, it's full of trash.

Not surprising that Californium would be worse than any other statonium, even New Yorkonium.

I've seen that cask and its baby version.  Th last time I saw it it was moving Cf-252 sources out of Xenia OH.

The CF cask is made of Water extended polyethylene WEP to shield neutrons.  Its not as dense as lead or steel as nuetrons prefer to interact with something the size of a neutron (protons or Hydrogen)

Connecticut Yankee? It's greenfield, save for the spent fuel pad.

I used to work in wastewater treatment. Most people have no idea how many tons of chlorine gas is on the roads daily.

My brother used to work out there years ago. I'll ask him if he's seen any of your booties go by on the conveyor belt (like that glove on the opening to 'Laverne and Shirley') lol

At the risk of thread drift, as previously mentioned, there is some incredibly hazardous shit that drives by us on the interstate every day. Got to have it, no other way to get it, but I always found it comical the stuff (like rad) people would get nervoused about.

The one I recall was on green field on the south side of the river, and the six (6) casks were south of the former plant site.

Shit, you guys are gonna make me find the Dr. David nuke guy and his video.  And I'm three shits into the wind.

Hittman is our courier as well. That one is probably not from us if it's headed west through PA though.

Yep and we're basically right on 80. Other nukes in PA I don't see why the truck would be on 80 vice the turnpike. But it could be from anywhere theoretically. We just use the same carrier and container company.

I own a 50 ton lowboy setup. That tractor only has 2 axles, trailer may be a 3+ but regardless if that was full I would think there would be more axles on the ground.
