Hell, for $4.5M I'd pick up some old MIG for a couple of hundred thousand and spend the rest on fuel and parts. $4.3M is a lot of flight time.

View Quote I hear ya on value, but the thrill of owning a 109 would be very tempting if I had millions to burn. MiGs are crude, and the 109 is dripping with history of the last time men fought with props and bullets in the air. |

e4 would be more fun... but e3 would be easyer to find ammo for

However, when talking about WW2 warplanes you want, what is better doesn't matter so much IMO as which has the more interesting history. If this was flown by who they claim, this is one hell of a historical aircraft. The real downside to the 109 is how dangerous it is to fly. If I bought it I'd sit in it mouthing engine and machine gun noises. I'd never fly it, I'd be too damn scared. |

I believe both, the props are spinning but something with the lens distorts it i think, not really sure though. |

Sure the 190 was more forgiving, but most ace pilots favored the 109s The smartest thing to do would have been to put the DB engine into the FW190 airframe and they would have resolved the FW's shortcomings at altitude. Plus the FW was easier to fly and manufacture. Kurt Tank always fought for that engine but never got it. The problem was mainly politics - the Nazi Party was Bavarian in its origins and always looked out for its base. |

Now I really want to start on my 1/48 scale BF109 E3 kit Tamiya?? got 2 on the table now My F4U-1D Tamiya kit is sitting on a shelf in the garage. I 'noticed' it today when pulling in, and thought hey, I should get started on that. (It's been up there for over 10 years.) THen I see this thread... Have to admit, I'm a Corsair man and I'd have a -1A, -1D or a -4 post haste upon cashing the powerball check. But, I do love me some 109! I tend to fly them in the sims when I'm not in a F4U. Which reminds me, I need to update War Thunder and get back into that.... |

I could throw in a couple hundo for a group buy, but seriously, if I had $4.5 mil laying around, I'd be buying a P-51D. Nothing sexier than a Mustang.

That would be pretty sweet and a plane you could fly with limited training

I'd post photos, but can't seem to do so on this board. Of course I also missed a Fiesler Storch about 4 months later. No more bad luck on airplanes for about 25 yrs when I missed an F4U Corsair.
