My advice is to limit and carefully monitor the amount of media in your kid's life.

We were pretty selective in the content  and amount.

They are 17 and 21 now. It has paid off.

We elected to NOT pacify our children with TV. Sounds like you are letting the child make the decisions for your house. Why voluntarily start making the entire rest of your life a misery? Not sarcasm.

I either pick stuff I dont mind hearing or shut it off when it's getting annoying. Kids watch too much TV.

The trick is finding stuff that you like to watch with your kids.  Don't make yourself suffer through bubble guppies or crap like that.  Otherwise you're just training them to watch mindless stuff.

When my son was 3 his favorite movies were Hellboy and Tremors. Both great movies with messages about heroism, overcoming perceived limitations and fighting to protect the defenseless.

When he was in third grade they had to share their favorite movies in class.  He came home pissed off that all of his classmates and teachers only like stupid cartoon movies.  He quickly realized that most everyone in the world has shit tastes for music and tv/movies.

Fast forward a few years and he'd rather watch Dr. Strangelove or Guns of Navarone with me than Spiderman and he'd rather listen to everything from Jazz to Slav hardbass than the bubblegum pop shit his friends listen to.

We always kept the tv volume low. I am always amazed when I go to other homes at how loud the tv volume is. I frequently have to ask them to turn it down so we can have a conversation about the repairs needed for their HVAC system. Most of you guys are probably the same, you just don't realize just how loud it really is because you always keep turning it up to drown out other noises.

To the OP, try turning down the volume a little each day as your kid won't realize it, but you will. You will be doing him a favor.

Ahhhhh......I miss those days.  My kids are all big and boring now.
I’ll take your kid and raise him well if you are sick of the little guy.

I removed the TV. I substituted instead a mom that stayed at home and taught her children. The kids also had their brothers and sisters to play with and large free range areas to explore. Instead of TV I introduced them to tools and fasteners.

Barney drove me up a fucking wall.

I fell in love with Sponge Bob, kids quit watching it when they found out I liked it.

Now I watch my daughter going dealing with Baby Shark with our grand.

I’m pretty good at tuning it out until my daughter wants to dance. My son is only 6 months so hasn’t gotten to the annoying TV show stage.

I miss watching SpongeBob with my Daughter when she was a little girl. We were watching an episode once and she said; “there’s a boy in my class who is just like Patrick”. Thought about it and realized I worked with a goy who was just like Patrick. I told my Daughter; “everybody knows a Patrick”. She laughed.

My daughter went back to college in VA yesterday.  Every time she leaves I know it's taking us that much closer to her being gone for good.

Get in the floor and play with him.  The little fellow will be too big to sit in your lap next week and the week after that he will be out the door.  Looking back it really seems that fast.

Don't be one of those lazy ass parents that just puts their kid in front of a TV or ipad every day.  That does nothing but screw them up.

Read to them, ply with them, craft with them, keep them thinking......

Our 5yr old get around 1-2 hrs of tv time a week.....if that much.

I tell my daughters Downtown Abbey is about princesses so they'll watch that instead of other shit.

They're 5 and 3, it's about the only thing I can get them to watch that isn't a sing along, when we need a break. They're scared of Disney movies

I used to take the kids on Sunday morning to Chuck E Cheese and read the newspaper while they ran around. They had the bracelets to match.  My kids were typically the bullies, so I had to break that up occasionally.

I tried to keep that stuff to a minimum and only let them watch stuff I approved of more than once. I nixed Peppa Pig, Dad was always an idiot like in a lot of kids TV.

Pixar stuff got watched over and over, and I was OK with Daniel Tiger and Little Einsteins and such for a while. Surprising thing about that, my kids retained all the music theory and were instant stars when they got to formal music classes in school, I thought that show was silly but it worked.

We never had regular broadcast/cable TV in the house so whatever it was we had to bring it in on purpose.

Tune it out. Or watch and interact . Do a bit of both depending on the shows .

Nature shows like wild kratts, nature cat, and stuff like that I’ll watch .... but anything else I just become numb to

the toddler stuff is the worst.  High pitched voices, primary colors, and the plots are abysmal.

Tweener stuff was better.  Regular Show and Gumball got me through some shit, I'll tell you what.

Has he discovered My Little Pony yet?

Seriously, limit his TV time. The problem with the later generations is that their parents used the TV set as a babysitter.
There's a lot of subtle left-wing indoctrination on those kiddie shows.
Remember what Vladimir Lenin said, "Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted".
