ETA: sorry... I know this is old, and I should have mentioned it. I was watching some videos and started thinking about the old days....

The Easy Lover hitmaker also thinks people are sick of him and his music. "It’s a good time to stop,” said the star, who has sold more than 150 million records. "I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: ‘I can’t be in the same business as this’. "I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me. I’m much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely. <cont'd> If you have ever been to one of his concerts, you know that he is one of the greatest musical entertainers this past century. Often, nostalgia clouds our judgement, and things we remember from 10-20 years ago weren't really all that great. I don't think that applies to Phil Collins/Genesis' music. |

I'm a Genesis nut case - it's about all I listen to and was glad that after Peter Gabriel left Phil Collins took center stage and kept the magic alive for awhile.
The music changed but so did the world. They were amazingly talented artists. |

I still spin Genesis, Phil's solo work and the albums he worked on. One of the greats like Winwood. |

I can't help but think of all his songs as a backdrop to a Miami Vice scene. Still, he was one of the greats.

Well he's been waiting for this moment all his life

Surprised at all the hate towards one of only 3 recording artists to have sold more then 100 million albums (solo and as lead singer of a group), the other two being Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson.

Saw Phil Collins solo back in the 80's It was a great show. I had to buy scalped tickets ( lawn seats) at SPAC My GF at the time liked his music. IT was worth paying top dollar for those tickets

Paul McCartney sucks too. I don't like his music I don't like him as a person. He is a schmuck of the highest order and a lame 3chord formula musician who plays to people high on geritol lusting after their days watching him shake his hair on the Ed Sullivan show 50 years ago. Jackson was a strange pedophile with lots of money to indulge in his boy-rape fantasies. His family is a long list of dirtbags and hanger-ons. |

Quoted: That sucks, he is a really good drummer Not any more, he has been unable to play drums (or percussion) since 2009. |

His career and the incredible music he made for decades cannot be easily surmised. He was an awesome singer, songwriter, and drummer. For any whippersnappers in doubt, go find and give serious listen to the LP "Abacab". Abacab is just the tip of the iceberg, but it can let some of the younger folks here know he is much much more than a cool sounding 80s song about something in the air tonight.

Paul McCartney sucks too. He gets a pass from me because of organizing this (in about a month) and raising $35m: |

Sounds like a bunch of boo-hoo, poor me nonsense.
I like his music but those quotes are pathetic. If you want to retire just admit it and retire. |

I was there and I saw what you did
Saw it with my own two eyes So you can wipe off that grin I know where you've been It's all been a pack of lies |

Phil is wrong about one thing. People will miss him. At least the people who actually have good taste in music and an appreciation for actual talent anyway. Phil Collins has more talent in his pinky finger than many of today's "stars" have in their entire body.
