My Dad was part of the 512th. He said the planes were really this pink! (matched the color of the Libyan desert)

I get to see the NASA WB-57s frequently, as I'm just off the runway at Ellington Field (NASA flight base) along with a lot of loud T-38s too..

Definitely this one from Stewart Spiers.  From Scotland, made in the mid-1800's.  It is exquisite.

Shitty cell phone pic of painting of an SR-71 at sunset.  Painted in high school 14 years ago.

Interesting airplane, but that's no SR-71 (or any of its siblings, like the A-12 or even the mothership for the D-21)
Did one of your parents work at Plant 42?

curious...

removing the dropping of the nuclear bombs. What air frame has dropped the most pain in the history of air warfare?

I tried to find the original pic I based it off of when I originally posted it, and I couldn't.  But when I looked just now, I found it.

Painting:

Original picture:

Description on this original picture:  "NOT SR71 - Something spotted flying out of Groom? Aurora maybe?? Alas, no. It's a model of a stealth-a-cized version of a SR-71, used for a motorcycle advertising campaign in Europe"

Website where the picture is:  http://www.otherhand.org/home-page/area-51-and-other-strange-places/bluefire-main/bluefire/nellis-complex-facilities/photo-gallery/

So probably what happened is that I googled, or since it was 2004 when I painted it maybe I Asked Jeeves or Yahooed for an SR71 picture and this one came up.  Looking at it as an "adult", I always thought my painting skills just sucked because it didn't look like an SR-71.  Turns out you're right AND my painting skills suck

From the B17 wiki page - "Of the 1.5 million tonnes of bombs dropped on Nazi Germany and its occupied territories by U.S. aircraft, 640,000 tonnes were dropped from B-17s."

So many to choose from -- the ones my dad flew in WWII [PB2Y], the one he flew as a private pilot [Mooney 21], the ones I worked on in the 70s [F15 A/B], racing planes from the 30s, military aircraft of many varieties -- the list is almost endless.

However, if I won the lottery, and could afford a perfect example, I'd buy one of these before anything else. Ryan STA.

I always liked Bonanza V-Tails and we finally picked one up as a family project plane. We've previously had Cessna 152, Piper Warrior, Cessna 310, Cessna 182, and  Grumman Tiger (almost finished and fixing to be sold)... We buy airplanes fix them and flip for a small profit.

The sound of four Rolls Royce Merlin V12 engines is impressive.

I have always loved the 747, flying on them between US and England since i was a baby.
Spent time visiting the cockpit and on the upper deck. It turned the 8 hours of flying each way into an adventure.
