I like to have about three or 4 1/2 ounces when I decide to enjoy.
No ice, water, mixing, Just enjoy two to three shots of a single choice, Or compare A shot each of two or three different choices. A shot glass is not a great sipping size. Your typical 7 ish ounce tumbler seems a little to big to precisely control sip size, and meant more for anything from a nice sized serving with ice, a fine mixed drink, or sling some store brand soda from a two bottle in with a couple shots of floor level shelved, plastic bottled alcohol. I have seen some special shape whiskey glasses, skinnier than cognac glasses, but not used them. For just straight scotch, whiskey, etc you are sipping, have any of you found the “perfect” glass? |

If I have a glencairn, I'll use that with a small ice cube to cool the whisky, but not water it down too much. If not, a standard rocks glass works.

Little yeti cup lots of ice, and EW or JB. If I am feeling fancy I'll get any cheap small whiskey glass and have smaller doses with less ice.

I’m with you, Ramairthree: I do the exact same thing...and NO ice, water, nothing; I want to taste the Scotch, bourbon, whiskey, etc.
I use either a Glencairn or one of the taller (skinnier) shot glasses that I have. |

Same here, just straight scotch. When shopping, seems like the ones with the perfect capacity are tipsy, or small bottom. I've been getting by with wine glasses

I was looking for some the other day and was told Glencairn are the best. $30 for a set of 4.

Red plastic dixie cup, coffee mug, or any other container that doesn't look faggoty.
While those work fine, in reality, my go-to bourbon glass is just a plain glass like you'd see in a saloon on a western. |

Tumbler from the original Bladerunner movie, unfortunately they are $$$ and ship from Europe.

8 ounce standard straight wall water/low cocktail glass... seriously with or without ice - that's the best for sipping/tasting.
Some folks like cognac glasses, or even sherry glasses but the bent rim makes the act more difficult. I don't want to swim in it. There are definitely "warm" whiskeys, and "cold/ice" whiskeys too. It's fine to prefer one or the other - but it shouldn't be a holy war. |

Whatever bottle it comes in. OH!, and a paper bag of course.

Round, flat bottom, straight wall Libbey's "rocks" glass. Cheap, thin, light. Perfect balance. I wish they had a BFL sandblasted on them. The ones sold here are just too steep.

straight or on ice, I personally love just the basic straight walled tumblers with the heavy base.
But I've also just used regular ikea cups before. |

I have some old tumblers I use. They are probably 4 or 6 oz. Would not mind something nicer, but they work just fine.
Honestly, if not single malt, and if I am just drinking to drink-I have a small ozarka trail insulated cup. Load it with ice then fill with whisky. It is a nice drink. One is fine, 2 is intoxicated, and 3 is painful. - can not even find the tumblers anymore. My wife knows I think they are unreplacable, but the kids like the size and have shattered most of the set-which is why I probably should not have nice things. |

An Old Fashioned glass tumbler.
Though normally, I drink whiskey from a coffee mug. |
