four-star admiral in the United States Public Health Service...
The United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (PHSCC) employs more than 6,000 uniformed public health professionals for the purpose of delivering public health promotion and disease prevention programs and advancing public health science. Members of the Commissioned Corps often serve on the frontlines in the fight against disease and poor health conditions. PHS had its origins in the system of marine hospitals that originated in 1798. In 1871 these were consolidated into the Marine Hospital Service, and shortly afterwards the position of Surgeon General and the PHSCC were established. I don't think it has had anything to do with the military since 1912... Well other than snazy uniforms. |

It's extremely depressing that we have even a few people in this thread spouting things like, "I don't care if they're trans, I care about ideology!"

Quoted: As far as I understand, it's not an armed service, but it still is a uniformed service. Like Coast Guard but without guns. All military pay and benefits apply, as well as UCMJ (when deployed). This thing is going to have the same rank and standing as a Navy Admiral. You will salute it and you will like it. This is fucking sick, should be tar and feathered and has NO business being in any public position…..PERIOD ! I bet the sick bastard wishes he could have one. Anyone thinking this dude is Ok is mentally ill and deserves to be………most of us here know what I’m thinking. It’s absolutely ludicrous.

It blows me away to see how much society must engage and be part of the fantasy world of the mentally ill. To the point of legislating us to do it.
Sorry Richard. You're a dude. I'm not playing along. |

In the decades of uniformed military service,
I have never rendered a salute to a "uniformed" Public Health employee. |

These are the same people that will vote for any warm body, even know child molesters merely because they wear their preferred symbol (D or R). |

Quoted: A 4 star Admiral of the “US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps”? What is the pay for this position? I’m unaware of the history of this agency, but it sounds like it has morphed into another swamp turd that needs to be flushed down the toilet. View Quote PHS , (name has changed idea behind it hasnt) is to improve public health. One of the ways they did this way back was quarentinineing suspected TB , smallpox, plague ships so they didn't infect mainland. When sailboats would show up in the harbor they would put up the quarantine flag a solid yellow flag. While that flag was up, the ONLY person allowed on and off was the quarantine officer of the port. the ONLY person who could take the ship out of quarantine was the PHS/quarentine officer. If a ship was contaminated/plague ridden the PHS officer got to wait it out onboard. Initially quarantines were "quatro tino" italian for "40 days" how long ships had to sit in harbor back in the 1600's in Italy to prevent spread of plague. you think trade suffers due to longshoremen being slow now... lol PHS is technically commissioned officers in the military they have O ranks just like navy ranks so 4 star admiral would be O-10, pay of 200k per year, plus benefits. IF they did 20 years they would get 50% of that for rest of life like a normal military pension, if appointed like this appears to be i dunno how it would work. PHS also is a backup of nurses that can be brought in to beef up various epidemics as needed. Ive got a buddy who is a nurse with them, normally he is 40 or so hours, now he is about 80-90 hours a week for his o-5 pay, . Same civilian nurse would be getting 250k easy for that level of hours. He is getting burned out too. |

Quoted: Quoted: In the decades of uniformed military service, I have never rendered a salute to a "uniformed" Public Health employee. Have you actually ever met one? They were all over Bethesda Naval when I was active duty. Never saluted a single one. Usually they are clueless about military customs and courtesies so they didn't even know when they were blown off. Everyone laughed behind their back when they walked by. PHS is a fucking joke. |

The press release says:
HHS said in a press release that the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is one of eight uniformed services – "and the only one dedicated solely to protecting, promoting and advancing America’s public health" by providing health care to "underserved and vulnerable populations or advancing practice, policy or research." View Quote Per Wikipedia: Uniformed services The uniformed services are, in order of precedence, when in formations: United States Army United States Marine Corps United States Navy United States Air Force United States Space Force United States Coast Guard United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps Each of the uniformed services is administratively headed by a federal executive department and its corresponding civilian Cabinet leader. Interesting to see that: United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (PHSCC): 4 January 1889 The Corps is headed by the Surgeon General of the United States. |
