After paying $155 million in March for the Palm Beach, Florida, oceanfront estate of the late conservative firebrand Rush Limbaugh, cosmetics billionaire William P. Lauder is tearing it down.

Crews have been at work this week demolishing the estate at 1495 N. Ocean Blvd., which Lauder bought through an ownership company from Limbaugh’s widow, Kathryn Adams Limbaugh, in an off-market deal.

Lauder is said to be planning a custom home on the old Limbaugh property, according to people familiar with it. But no plans have been submitted to Town Hall yet for officials to review.

Sometimes I will look at the clock and think "six minutes after 10, Rush is on".

I remember the sensation he made back in the early 90s when he first hit it big.  Didn't listen to him very often in his later years, but it was fun to listen once in a while while driving somewhere on long trips.

Man I miss him. Grew up on Rush, got to meet him a couple times. Was listening live when he announced his diagnosis, almost in the same place in KS where I listened to George Brett hit the Pine Tar Home Run.

RIP Great One. Not forgotten.

It's what he would have wanted

You can tell because he left no successor, never mentored a replacement, didn't do much other than bloat on about how the country was going to shit for 30 years while happily cashing checks

He was an entertainer, that's all

Times change, I miss Rush too, but he wouldn’t have been able to stop our downward spiral as a nation.

This is very common for South Florida - no matter how famous or important the pervious owner was, millionaires/billionaires want THEIR dream home on that sort of property.

What did Rush conserve? He was the most visible and active voice of an entire generation. Was the country better, or worse, at the end of his tenure?

He's gone, and mostly forgotten. No legacy left behind by his own choices.

That's right around billionaires row. The people that live there probably no longer even have a traditional concept of money.

I’m so sorry Rush didn’t get to see the overturning of Roe V Wade. I’m so sad he isn’t here today to bring a little levity and perspective to the clown world this country has become. No one has risen to replace him, proving finally that he was utterly irreplaceable.

They pay $155 million for the property, maybe another few million to demolish, so that land cost Lauder maybe $160 million.  That is one expensive knock down.

I remember when that was an issue for him, but it happened along Ft. Lauderdale beach, as well.

I like turtles, however.

He was a counter to the leftist media, slowing the left-ward shift of the Overton window.  Without people like him pushing back, many would simply accept that shift.  It’s not something tangible you can measure, but it’s there.

I just drifted away from talk radio after he passed.

I found no content worth staying for. He anchored the field.

I have some podcasts I keep up with, but nobody could replace him.

He came at a time when we didn't have community or voice as we do now, and he let us all know we weren't alone, and we got to hear each other and talk with each other.

At that time, it was magazines, periodicals, the smattering of academics and academic books, and ... election season meetings.

Those who have no memory of the before can't begin to grasp it.
