Confirmed: Russians Just Destroyed Their First Leopard 2 Tank, Bradley Fighting Vehicles
Heavy armored vehicles including tanks supplied by the West have begun showing up on the frontlines in Ukraine, as Ukrainian forces have this week launched their counteroffensive. Multiple war analysts are now confirming that Russian forces have just destroyed their first German-made Leopard II tank, which happened Wednesday in the south of the country. Videos and photographs which have emerged also appear to show destroyed Bradley fighting vehicles provided by the United States. Drone footage captured a Leopard II tank being destroyed at is was traveling in a column of other vehicles... The below photograph is also widely circulating, showing multiple destroyed West-supplied armored vehicles closely together in a heap of mangled metal: Currently NATO allies have pledged 85 Leopard II tanks to Kiev, but there are more on the way, including the UK Challenger 2 tanks. At least 31 M-1 Abrams have been pledged from the United States, but it's expected the Ukrainian operators will take more time undergoing the necessary training on the sophisticated US-designed tanks. Kiev has previously touted Western main battle tanks as a "game-changer" and are now eagerly seeking F-16s. |

Yeah man. It's a war.
I hope they lost that armor gaining back something meaningful. The good news is it appears crew exits are all open, looks like guys got out. |

Cheap, autonomously ai controlled drones are the near future. We can make them right now and it’s not that difficult. Ai powered cameras flying them to a predetermined spot. With only their programming to guide them. They don’t need to be good. They just need to be good enough en masse.
Who can produce the most of these in-country? The current resource and labor inefficient sitting ducks are not going to win wars. I’m talking about total wars. Just short of nuclear or even nuclear wars. The wars where someone will do what is necessary to win and nothing less or more. Our pathetic leaders are not willing to do what it takes to win and will have battalion after battalion laid to waste against an inferior enemy who is unleashed. |

I've genuinely wondered why people keep harping on this?
As shitty as Russian tactics are, the West knows its going to lose a good bit of equipment in this offensive. |
|
|
So looks like they lost about 10% of the Bradleys sent.
Those hookers and blow won’t pay for themselves, we live in a kleptocracy. |

Well, they're fighting along terrain that is mostly open farm land fields with very little concealment in an era of drones and man portable ATGMs. Plus, they can't really do combined arms that well since they have very limited air assets themselves (almost no attack helicopters, very few ISR planes, and very few multi-role or bomber aircraft).
Plus, look you can train crews to be the best damn crews in the world, but you can't in a matter of months bring an entire officer corps up to par with that of Western officers who have reached equivalent ranks after decades of professional development. This is going to be a tough fight. One or two great piece of hardware is not going to lead to some overmatch situation where Ukraine just dominates like the U.S. did against Iraq in 1991. |

Its going to happen. Now whether they were death by turret pop or just disabled mechanically and abandoned are 2 different things.
I wouldnt mind seeing what a platoon of current US spec M1A2s would do against Soviet armor. |

You'd think they would have adopted western tactics and discipline after this much time, or at least have training on why its bad to stack armor that close. |

View Quote Abridged training, they don't have NCOs with years and years of experience using this equipment. They have an officer corps that completely lacks the decades of development their Western counterparts have. Still, all things considered they're not doing as terribly as I expected, but yeah they've lost maybe 10% of their IFVs and about 1/3rd of their artillery in the past year. Don't discount the terrain issue with open farm land everywhere (it's unreal how much of Ukraine is just flat open farm land) and the fact that they have almost no air cover. |

Tanks are not some wunderwaffen weapon that will change the tide of a war these days

Did the ukies abandon all those vehicles in the first tweet? They don't seem to have moved through out the shelling and after.

I'm all good with knowing tanks, IFVs are going to be destroyed. But at least do so using proper doctrine. Rolling down the road, in broad daylight, closely packed together is not going to cut it.

Sadly this will happen. They aren’t impervious to things that said that column was way too bunched up together. Easy picking for the Russians.

The counteroffensive hasn't started officially yet 1. No. lol Not in this case. 2. This battle seems to contradict that. Per Oryx: 3x Leopard 2A6 (1 destroyed, 2x abandoned) 4x M2 Bradley (abandoned) 1x VAB APC (abandoned) 1x Oshkosh M-ATV MRAP (abandoned) More losses will be added tonight (including ~six more M2 Bradleys). Who knows how many other vehicles actually managed to get away. |

Just sending armor down the road with no supporting arms. They could easily have had MANPADs, Gepards, BUKs and and such to deal with aerial threats. |

But Bradley’s, leopards and m113’s stacked up nuts to butts? That’s poor tactics and trying to say they’re remote drones is some serious copium. They’ll get this figured out eventually and start having success |
