It’s funny—if you’re a theist, eating meat is sanctioned by the Creator, but if you’re an atheist, eating meat is simply part of our natural function and is no less “moral” than a fox killing a rabbit.

So where tf do they get this retarded notion that killing animals for food is remotely bad or somehow of dubious moral status?

Then it's all a matter of definition.

Mine is that any animal that refrains from eating other animals and can fill out a form requesting that i not eat it, I will refrain from eating.

This is fair. I will adopt this definition and policy.

There is a war on both beef and chickens right now. You best be fighting in it.

I have my meat chicks coming in a little while, but I ain't scared. I can handle the little fuckers. I don't have the facilities to raise beef, but I certainly would be a bit more wary about going to war with a cow.

Did someone tell the cannibals that ate uncle Boise? At this point even a potato has a conscience.

I have no doubt that cephalopods are sentient and they are also aware that we are as well.

These Florida Spiny Lobsters (bugs) are contemplating their fate rather than their conscious experience.

I’ll eat them too, when times get tough; and by “tough”, I mean before I’d eat their alternative protein or lab grown cancer meat.

Bezos Earth Fund is giving $60 million toward revamping alternative proteins

A review of the signatories on this declaration indicates most of the expertise is in philosophy, psychology, and environmental studies. The group asserts that a wide array of species, including lobsters, fish, octopi, and insects, can experience elements of consciousness and sentience.

First, there is strong scientific support for attributions of conscious experience to other mammals and to birds.

Second, the empirical evidence indicates at least a realistic possibility of conscious experience in all vertebrates (including reptiles, amphibians, and fishes) and many invertebrates (including, at minimum, cephalopod mollusks, decapod crustaceans, and insects).

Third, when there is a realistic possibility of conscious experience in an animal, it is irresponsible to ignore that possibility in decisions affecting that animal. We should consider welfare risks and use the evidence to inform our responses to these risks.

I’m not sure why this is a shock to anyone — it would seem less logical to believe that non-human creatures do NOT have consciousness.

I’m sure the string pullers will use this as another reason why we should all eat Soylent green instead of any type of meat.
