So I meant to post this weeks ago but forgot, then the thread of the guy playing "stabby your hand" with an OTF was posted.
I carry a very nice ZT/Hinderer Design knife every day. I like it a lot. And it gets used multiple times a day. But, deploying it and moreso stowing the blade sucks. I want an OTF knife. Out of pocket, deploy, use, stow, back in pocket one handed. Show me what you love, brand, what it was priced at. Microtech seems to be a favorite, but I know little. Budget up to $450. Must extend and retract with the button, and must be a double sided blade. Other than that it's wide open. |
|
Not my favorite but my favorite to actually carry would be an Ultratech. Well within your budget and readily available in double edged configuration.

I have one of the little Microtechs. I carry it a lot. I'm not knife fighting, just need a knife. So it works well.

One day I'll be free enough to get one |

The best is the Hawk Knives Deadlock. But the best is not cheap. Microtec is good too.

May affect my decision. After all they aren’t cheap. |

Microtech Ultratech and Combat Troodon are my two rotating every day carry knives. Troodon is double edged with one side fully serrated.
I'm sitting on a plane so I'll have to take a pic later |

After all they aren't cheap. They require additional upkeep and they love to collect dust/dirt that makes the action gritty. Failures to fully deploy due to debris or the blade being blocked are a real concern if you're considering one for serious use. |

Or I’ll just have one for more limited use, after all they are pretty cool. |

Used be be a UTX-85 but now it's a Hogue Counterstrike. It's better than the microtech, IMO.

Combat Troodon in Apocalyptic finish...
Best Father's Day gift ever. |

For your req’s, I’d say ultratech spartan
Or the D/E serrated on one side blade Buy a hifinder or clone from ok-knives.net and test run whatever you want for $40 before committing to $400 |

Quoted: Lightning $40 View Quote I've been surprised by my lightning elite. It's been super reliable and since I thinned the blade down, it actually cuts decently. |

Quoted: Kershaw’s first OTF. I’ve been carrying it daily for months. Love it https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/42361/IMG_9979-2984200.jpg View Quote I would second that. Kershaw guy has them at a decent price and even cheaper for a blem when he gets them https://kershawguy.com/product/kershaw-livewire-otf-automatic-out-the-front-9000-preorder/ I have the black non-blem live wire and it's a solid OTF. Well built. Only thing I don't like is that the handle is pretty long compared to blade length. Makes holding and using the knife great though. I've carried it off and on for a few months and never had an issue with it. |

It WAS an OTF Microtech Combat Troodon
It was stolen from my residence by a Tucson cop. POS. |

Dumb related question, where's a good online knife outlet that carries good stuff?
Think PSA/Natchez/Brownell's but for knives, if it exists. |

Quoted: Lightning OTF’s are awesome beater knives. Soft blades but the lock up is among the best. https://i.ibb.co/v3LBFRj/F5945-C1-E-E0-DE-43-C4-8-D97-189-BBA0-ABFF5.jpg My personal favorite, which is the Boker Kwaiken. They’re a gamble though as there are two generations and no way to tell without taking it apart and the first generation had problems. https://i.ibb.co/b7MPMsh/65512-B4-D-CE06-4-B80-B402-D670-D4-CA4-C0-D.jpg The Hogue which is a good knife but stiffer than Joe Biden at a Girl Scouts meeting. Not a big fan so I sold it. Their newest models are supposed to be a lot better so will probably be my next OTF purchase. An OD green Microtech might pull me away at a good price. https://i.ibb.co/LCPy8Dq/916-B0-B25-0737-4-ED8-ABCB-BF1-C5283-A140.jpg View Quote I have a couple of the Boker Plus OTF knives as well. I carried the black one for several months. I like them a lot, but the blade thickness is pretty slim and i wouldn't really put it to hard use. Those blades LOVE to cut. |
