I'm beyond astonished. I watched the first stage of a fucking space rocket LAND ITSELF ON A CONCRETE PAD for reuse. Live.
Holy. Shit. 'Murica. |

Watched the launch from Cape Coral on the west coast of Florida (about 150 miles away). Very easy to see it and follow it when you're watching the skies with a PVS-14.

Thing is going 26k km/h which is 16k mp/h... forgot how cool space travel was.

Correct. They didn't have the proper permit. Seriously. |

Absolutely incredible. Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't watch it myself.
How the hell are they transmitting live HDTV from space? That's amazing! Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

We take a lot for granted. |

Anyone else notice that the 3rd through 6th deployments (I think) occurred ahead of the timeline?

Hallelujah. I've got 26 main bearings on that thing and my asshole puckers every time one goes up.
Wait for falcon heavy 2q 2016, twice the payload capacity. I saw a technological triumph of the free market here - and dollar signs for the next 48 months of bearing business! |
|
Wow -- I remember drawings after the first stage got out of orbit.
Now I am watching the satellites get thrown off the final stage |

Saw the first stage come back and land from my front yard! Historic!!!!
I thought it had blown up, but it was a double sonic boom. Just like the Shuttle. |

Quoted: What are those satellites for? View Quote ORBCOMM OG2 is the world's first and only commercial satellite network 100% dedicated to M2M. The ORBCOMM network uses low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide reliable and cost-effective M2M communications to and from in the most remote areas of the world. ORBCOMM satellites are constantly in motion around the Earth, providing inherent network redundancy and minimizing line-of-sight issues for continuous global coverage. Each satellite’s VHF frequency furthers signal propagation and message delivery is unaffected by bad weather. In addition, the optimized message size is ideal for M2M applications. http://www.orbcomm.com/ |

Congratulations to Elon Musk and the SpaceX team, what a great achievement! That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

IIRC they didn't have permission to try and land at a pad, which was always the intention, so they were going to try and prove they could do it at sea first. I guess they proved that they had enough control that NASA gave them permission to try on land. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Question: Are they going to try to launch this particular stage 1 again in an actual commercial launch, take it completely apart to inspect it, launch it again in just a test launch, or what? that is an interesting question, have to wonder what the first company will be to put their billion dollar satellite on a used rocket This test was purely experimental. Future Stage 1's will be built around this with the intent to be reused in order to slash costs. |

That was awesome. It's great to see what can be done without government.
Go America!!!!! |
|
That was awesome. One nit....they did not show the payload fairing separation well. They were mainly looking at the engine.
Maybe they will put together a video with mission highlights and show it then. Watching that first stage land was impressive. |

That was the best launch video I have ever seen. They had angles on EVERYTHING. Err... I mean... COME ON, SPACEX! I ONLY GOT TO WATCH HALF THE SATELLITES DEPLOY LIVE!!! View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I'm not sure I'll ever get to see men walk on another planet, but that was pretty damn impressive.

That's so damn cool. |
