I like it, though I like the cheaper price per round of 9mm better
.40s are all that I own...
My 226 with the SRT is the most bestest there is! |
my p226 in 40 is the most comfortable and easy shooting handgun I have ever shot.
I like it well enough. My Beretta 96 is a pleasure to shoot and my Sig P239 is a good CC weapon, though currently it has the .357 Sig barrel in it.
Of course I also like my .45s, 9s, .380s, .22s, .38s, and .357 Magnums, so there's that. |
Indifferent I guess…
I mean, it’s a really good cartridge and all. It has a few minor advantages over the 9mm but they are probably canceled out by the few minor disadvantages it has compared to the 9mm. I’ve chosen to go the 9mm route because that was what was available when I started buying auto pistols back in the late 80s. I do think 9mm is a significantly better choice in small CCW handguns too. But, if something happened to all my guns and someone gave me a couple .40s out of sympathy, I might just decide to go the .40 caliber route, maybe. |
It's a compromise cartridge. I prefer 9 and 45, but I own a 40.
I remember the early to mid 2000's when Glock 17/19's collected dust while the 22/23's sold out fast.
I joke about it in GD but really don't have anything against it.
If I had invested in it during the AWB, I would probably still be sticking with it. Guns and mags can be had super cheap, and there are some great deals on ammo to be found as well, even compared to 9mm. |
I have more G22 mags than I do anything else in pistol calibers.
I do not have as many G22 mags as I do rifle mags though. My 23 is my daily carry. My 22 and 35 are my favorite silencer hosts. |
I like .40 lite. Consists of up to 180 grain cast led, and a ridiculously low charge of powder. Read about them in a G&A magazine years ago and gave them a try, going even lower than the load data they gave.
Other than that, I really don't care about 40. |
I have two guns in .40
I like the idea of another caliber in the stable in case ammo goes dry again. Some people would argue I should have spent that pistol money on a few cases of 9mm but fuck em. Both also have 9mm threaded conversion barrels for suppressors G22 and P226 |
I hate it...
But I still shoot a fuck ton of it in USPSA. I hate USPSA for making me do this. I hate myself for shooting USPSA. |
Indifferent. I don't own one but I wouldn't be against picking one up. Only downside is I would have to stock another caliber and more mags. And it doesn't have the capacity of 9mm.
I had several now only 2 XDM 4.25" and a CX4 Storm, both will be gone soon.

I love my .40S&W
I've tried to make the switch to 9mm but I always go back. Cheap guns and ammo is always a plus too. |
I'm not a fan of 40 s&w, but having said that i'll never be without my glock 22 and 35, been though to many panicks, 40's the only thing left on the shelf
I love my 9's, I love my .45.
Never owned a .40 until about four years ago. It's now my favorite for carry. 14 rounds of 180 gr. Ranger T or HST in a compact pistol seems just about perfect to me. |
I kind of prefer 9mm lately, but I still remember back during the Great Obama Ammopocalypse where the only ammunition available at Wal Mart at any price were standard hunting rounds and .40 S&W.
I hate is because some asshole always has to bring a .40 when everyone is shooting 9mm major or .45acp and we gotta sort it out of thousands of rounds of brass

ARFCOM land is like Trump polling before the election; Everybody bitches and moans it's no good, and then they quietly vote for it. Only 1 out of 5 don't like it!!

The only two pistols I've ever sold were .40, but I like it. The weekend before weapons qual I try to shoot a few hundred rounds of .40 in my G22 or M&P.
When I pick up the M9 it's like a pellet gun after training with my .40s. And usually I have no problem finding .40 during a panic. |
Love it....if you don't, feel free to send yours to me for proper disposal
I have broken ever bone in my dominant hand twice, I don't care if you want to shoot .40, but I WONT.
People like to say they hate it because it delivered the death blow to 10mm.
Shouldn't be a problem. 10mm has hard recoil, breaks guns, is exponentially expensive, etc. .40s&w fixed those issues. |

The 40 Short and Weak? The underpowdered version of the 10mm? Yeah, I'm not a fan.
I loves me some 10mm and if I had to carry just one firearm the rest of my life, it would be my Dan Wesson Razorback 10mm with 150gr Nosler JHP Double Tap rounds. But that's just me. |
