That is what I was thinking, whenever I see pics of Tangos in the sandbox they alwasy seem to have tokarev pistols, same caliber........ I know my 52 punches through all sorts of fun stuff, with steel core, not sure how it does with lead though, haven't bought any yet |

Great thread!!! It looked like all the handgun rounds were similar. I mean....they are just handguns. Like what I was trained to do, use your handgun to get to your rifle
 All in all the test was very informative especially the rifle rounds. Im just wondering what a 12gauge rifled slug would do on a person wearing armor? I read a story about a few people, cops and robbers, taking full on torso hits from slugs in the armor and remaining on their feet and staying in the fight. Great test though. I disagree. Your average 2-bit home invader will likely never have body armor. And, if he does, it likely won't be something like III-A, either. Shotgun is still a VERY good choice for homedefence. I have alternating 00 Buck and Rifled slug in mine. |

Maybe you could try .22LR, 22Mag, & 30 Carbine from rifle sometime against that armor?
Oh, and .17HRM, 22mag, 5.7, and 30 carbine from a handgun too... |

Yes please. A Sheriff on a different board tested a 52 out on some IIIA and all of the various rounds of it punched clean through. However it was not clay backed. I would really like to see the 7.62x25 tested as per your method. |

Yeah, a CZ-52 would be fun. Shotgun slugs "typically" don't make it through IIIA. While they've got a lot more mass, their frontal area is over 10 times the .223 and roughly 1/3-1/2 the velocity. Maybe in 6 months the clay can be replaced with jelly to test ballistics on Santa!

Many thanks. I have generated a lot of critisizm from some people who find fault in nearly everything I do. I never said that I was Underwriters Labratories. But I do try to make the tests as accurate as possible. I enjoy them. A lot of my friends at AR15.com seem to enjoy them. So, I will continue to do them. And besides, shooting stuff is fun.

To "toot" the photographer's horn a bit ( most people seem to take the action shoots for granted ).
The question- A number of people have emailed and asked how we make the trick shots. If we take multiple shoots or have high tech equipment to get the clips in the air, pistol actions opening, brass in flight, slugs hitting the Kelvar etc. The facts: We only do one shot on each test. No retakes for photos. No high tech equipment. We count to "zero" and press the shutter as O_P shoots. The secret- A bit of luck, 100 years of combined shooting experience and 30 years of shooting together. Kinda like an old married couple !

Absolutely. Cite me one instance of a burglar wearing a vest during an attack and I'll gladly cite 50, 100, or probably even 200 instances were they did NOT wear them. Also, I'd like to see an intruder bust into my home with a 20-30 year old police vest he got along with his Hipoint. After my rifled slug (and perhaps even 00 buck) penetrate the vest and kill him, I'll laugh. |

Only you can do an accurate threat assessment for your house/lifestyle. My wife and I are both cops. For the last 20 months I have specifically worked bank robbery crews and methamphetamine trafficers in the southern California. If someone comes gunning for me they are much more likely to be wearing body armor than the neighbor kid looking to steal your Xbox. |

Yes, and he will argue about it till the end of time too. Maybe unarmored two-bit invaders are more than I will ever see, but since I use my M4gery as the big-boy HD weapon, I just won't concern myself with that aspect. If they have Level IV then I'm screwed anyway and I've done all I can do minus a 50 BMG. |
