Stavatti, the mercurial, Minnesota-based aerospace startup, has dusted off its old proposal for a new attack plane to partially replace the U.S. Air Force’s venerable A-10 Warthog. The Machete, which is still just a concept, would come in two variants optimized for close air support?—?the propeller-driven SM-27 and the jet-propelled SM-28. Stavatti has proposed other variants of the Machete for air-to-air combat and advanced training. |

Kinda weird looking.
And I'm always suspicious of anything titling itself as the super anything. |
|
Looks like some sort of push turbo prop with twin sets of blades. Still looks like a heavy aircraft designed to carry a lot of heavy ordinance. Would it have enough power?
|
|
As far as I can tell Stavatti just makes cool-looking drawings that are maybe better than what a middle school student will do on a notebook.

These fuckers are fake. Fake, fake, fake. Their "production facility" is an industrial pump shop in San Bernadino, and they do NOT have an 07/02 as best as I can tell. It's a very elaborate prank.

Wow, they went to the trouble of putting the cannon in it.
More fuel would have been a better choice. |
|
Hey! Let's develop a brand new weapons system! It can be a propeller driven, single purpose, ground attack fighter to compliment our F-35B fleet.
Oh and it won't be this: Attached File And you people wonder why I think that the Marines would turn silencers for everyone into a waste of money. |

It looks like something out of some "Future Fighters" book from the 80s

CAS is obsolete. The air force seems perfectly fine with dropping inert bombs onto single vehicles.

No new and improved BRRRRRRRUUPPPPPP = Fail
Hard to build a better mousetrap. |
|
Read it....ok so it has Brrrrrt.
But does it have the armor and B-17 style airframe? |
|
It's not a mutherfucking warthog.
It's a Thunderbolt II. I'm done here |

View Quote MANPADS already made them obsolete in Vietnam. |

The only thing that is good for is to intercept a Cessna 182 that flew into a no fly zone.

The Super Tucano seems like a simple, cheap, and effective stopgap platform for COIN:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_EMB_314_Super_Tucano "The Super Tucano, however, has Kevlar armor that can withstand heavy machine gun fire, two .50-caliber machine guns in the wing roots, and can carry up to 3,300 pounds of munitions, sensor pods or fuel tanks on up to five hardpoints. It can go 367 miles per hour, and has endurance of eight and half hours and range 826 miles." Not bad for a COTS aircraft that's only $9-12 million. Of course, because it's a not a multi billion project for a major US defense contractor, it will likely never be adopted. |
|
After looking into the Scorpion, I really like it. Another that will probably never happen though.

Dumb question .....
Why replace the A-10 ? Everything I read says "it's ___ yrs old we need a new plane .... Why not build new A-10s ? It's not like it's a pos . Build new ones replace old ones . |
|
Bogus.....Everyone knows the best machetes are made in South America.
|
|
I've seen lots of pics of a-10s with damage at the tail section. That prop out the back looks vulnerable
Two engines so if one is hit it's still flyable but that thing? Know nothing about these things but I'm guessing that could not sustain the amount of damage a warthog can and still fly. |
|
It's a nice looking drawing that would take 20 years to hit the runway.
|
|
They are looking for light attack and cheaper to fly per hour. I vote for the Super Tucano if the main purpose is shooting
people who mates with goats or Mexican/US border. Don't add on to the plane what it was not design to do like no 30 mm gun |

View Quote They should have installed a spinner hub on that propeller to make it more aerodynamic. |

I don't know about the plane, but I am certainly going to look into the investment opportunity.
