Metric is awesome but sae is here to stay. We machine in thousandths here even if it's a metric part.
Metric is much simpler, know what's one bigger than a 12mm wrench? Know what's one bigger than a 7/16s? |

I'm fine with metric, it's just when the 2 get mixed that I have a problem.
We will still have SAE everywhere, and still have to keep both sets of tools handy. FWIW, the metric system never won a world War or put a man on the moon. |

I use metric for most of my every day stuff - except driving and home repair (16" on center).
I wouldn't have a problem switching. |

Metric and Imperial are completely mixed into our culture and industry at this point.
It'd be like trying to separate the milk and flour after you start making bread. Ain't gonna fuckin' happen. |

The problem has nothing to do with the base of the counting system. I can specify a weight as 0.001 pounds-force, or as 0.001 Newtons. Same with dimensions, 13.753 meters, 13.753 yards. The key there is understanding the definitions of those four measures. Want to talk about milli-inches? We can do that, too. "Milli" has a definition separate from an SI measurement system. |

I always find myself trying to convert metric units to our units for comparison. I haven't yet gotten to the point that I intuitively know that 37 centimeters equals X inches. I am guessing it is 11 inches or so....about a little more than a third of a meter....
My point is it would be nice if I automatically knew what the metric equivalent was without having to do all those mental gymnastics. |

Y'all are so off base with this one. Have you ever noticed those little green number signs on the interstate? Every mile you'll see one. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to replace those? Taking all the signs down, buying kilometer signs, which is what 3/5 of a mile? Your talking about 40% more signs or something. We just can't do it. The cost is impossible.

Meh, we already use both almost everywhere and most people manage to figure it out so really who cares at this point.
I will say that when I did laboratory work it sure is a lot easier working in SI than whatever fucktarded USC units exist. In machining it was easier using imperial measurement, point is you just adapt and deal with it. It's not going away any time soon. |
