Wind was supposed to be crazy in Texas today, looks like Amarillo is getting pummeled, but it hasn't made it's way to DFW yet. I bought a small hammer drill from Harbor Freight yesterday and spent a few hours putting in concrete anchors for small portable buildings we have at our business. Everyone is going to be pissed if the bathrooms blow over. |

I dread tonight. I will be up all night monitoring the weather. I am responsible for two small hospitals. One is 30 minutes East of Memphis and one is near Kentucky lake / Paris. I live in the middle of the area. Probably be in NWSSlack/chat, and with the state guys. I have an inground storm shelter, but my 72 year old MIL with dementia lives with us. She can’t get down the steps easily. So worst case the family goes down and I stay with her in house. Next house will have an above ground storm room inside, either safe room or safe shelter in garage. |

If your budget allows, I would think something like that would be a must- have addition to the family home. I know I would certainly sleep better at night knowing that I could shuffle the kids into that thing at a moment’s notice. Solid investment.. |

Cost wise, they have size ranging from a simple 4x4 triangle made to go in a corner, a 4x4 box, 4x6, the 5x8, up to some truly surprising sizes made for manufacturing plants. Really no reason a family can't afford "something" to ride out a tornado warning (they aren't fall out shelters or for overnighting) if they budget it properly. |

I doubt we will seeing anything up this far north tomorrow, but I did go run my monthly gen test/check today. I have family in the STL area so they are in the crosshairs tonight. Midsouth increased to a 7/10 Torcon and 4/5 moderate area increased. In 1999 an EF4 hit 100 yards from my house. I ran and jumped in a drainage ditch. Since I have had a storm shelter at every house. I could hear the tornado tearing up apartments and houses. I worked the other EF-4 that hit Jackson, TN. I was at Union Unv. digging kids out, doing searches and stayed all night to work with TF-1 from Memphis. I have worked numerous smaller and straight line wind damage, sawing trees for days. When Alabama had the tornado swarm, I went to Arab and worked a week as a vacation time. I can’t shoot a tornado and kill it, so I have to respect them and just hide when they come by. |
