Quoted: Why? View Quote Jackassery aside, steel can typically span greater distances than concrete and will give you more strength per weight of material. It will usually last longer when properly painted or galvanized (although some of the new weathering steels eliminate the need for any kind of finish) It can handle more deflection before failing and is less likely to fail when seismic activity is a concern. A lot of new bridges/overpasses here are being built with concrete pilings/columns and steel for beams, though with the cost of steel on the rise that may begin to change. Tell your state to build with steel so you can keep me employed |
