Good analogy.   An Ipad isn't inherently evil, yet it can put you in communication with evil beings, if you aren’t careful.

If the Ouija board actually works it is a way for something to tune in the channel to try and posses you. Well for starters the spirits of the dead aren't just sitting around waiting to do your bidding.
You need something to get them to pay attention and you need a medium of exchange. That medium is and has always been blood. No blood, no interest. It could be human or animal. I use my own a lot because it's convenient or whoever I'm doing the consult for. Carrying around chickens or mice is a pain in the ass and cruel

Lots of people have died. Billions of them, not all of them can read or write, not all of them speak English and not all of them care. You need to reach out like tuning an antenna. To do this you need a conductor, which is almost always water. Doesn't have to be distilled or deionized or anything just clean and you need an attenuator which amplifies your signal. It just has to be something pure or close to it. Historically gold and silver were used due to being easy to refine into a high purity and resistance to oxidation. For a while in the 1800s people were experimenting with mercury but ended up poisoning themselves. Nowadays copper is common, graphite had a little heyday for a while as did diamond which spawned the whole spiritual crystals thing but they won't work as they are often Silicon oxides and have other elements giving them colors.

The rest gets really techy and kinda boring. So that was the short answer

I never thought of that, but I can't say you're wrong.

Some people unfortunately have  a "good" experience with something like a Ouija board and go on to live a live with a familiar spirit, or spirits.  They are as deceived into believing it's harmless as the person who says it's hokum.

Anybody who doesn't believe it's real:  I respect your belief.  It's hard to convince someone who hasn't experienced its power themselves, just like it's hard to convince an atheist that there's a supreme being.  So, I just have to tell the truth as I know it and people can accept it or reject it.

Excellent question.  I was waiting for that.  If you read the whole thing you'll see that part of the reason was to illustrate that the spirits coming through will in fact lie about their predictions.

Unless I'm mistaken, what it predicted never came true, did it?

there was a "witch" in my hometown when I was in high school.  She was early 20's and scared the crap out of high school kids.  She did Ouija and other sayaunces with kids at her house.  One church brought in an expert on the occult.  Long story short.  I became casual friends with her later and learned that her and a high school girl preplanned all this stuff.  The HS girl was doing all the "signs" while people focused on the witch.  That is how the occult actually works.

Myself and a couple of friends played with one when I was home on leave back in 94 or 95.

We asked it a bunch of off the wall questions. Like stuff about our futures. I asked if I would get married and it just spelled out "soon". I asked who and it spelled out "Bambi". This pissed off the girl I was seeing at the time. I don't even remember her name. However, I got married a in 1997 to a girl named Bambi.

My friend Roxanne asked when she would get married. It spelled out "never". We all thought bullshit because her and my other friend were engaged. She died later that year the victim of a drunk driver.

It didn't really dawn on me until my wedding day when I got married to Bambi that I though of Roxanne and how I wished I could have invited her because we were great friends growing up. As soon as I thought of that, I remembered that night with the Ouija board. They are most definitely not something to mess with.

Believe or don't believe. But I believe there are things happening just out of our sense of perception that are not a good idea to get involved with. I think that all it takes is to invite contact and a soul that has nepharious intent will connent and latch on. The soul could be someone who was an evil person or one that is upset they died too soon or looking to punish someone that still has life.

There are some really dark evil forces and things we have no business whatsoever interacting with. I've seen true evil in this world and I wholly believe that the evil we can see is influenced by the dark evil we cannot sense.

Wasn't that something Edgar Cayce came up with? I've heard of it from somewhere and his name was the first I thought of, maybe I am channelling.

Seriously, Ouija boards give me the creeps. The grandmother of my first wife was all into the occult and had regular Ouija sessions. She held a seance once after a holiday meal to summon up her dead husband so he could enjoy the festivities. I don't know if she was an illusionist or if our imaginations took over but something changed in the room, it was disturbing to me whatever it was.

Cayce didn't invent automatic writing...hell Cayce was a damn near fundamentalist Christian himself, and only started doing the trance stuff regularly after everyone kept harrasing him to do it.

As weird as it may sound, setting an empty plate for a deceased relative on a holiday was a pretty common practice in the western world for a long time.

Shit, maybe 100 years ago, arfcom would be telling you that you are going to hell for decorating a Christmas tree ...I think I recall reading about Christmas trees being banned in certain areas of American up until the early 1900's because of their pagan significance.

My point is, our cultural mores change all the time; "summoning" a dead relative to a dinner, isn't really too much different than invoking Jesus, or the holy spirit in the grand scheme of things.
ETA: the purpose of Greek and Roman "feast days", and later the Christian saint's days, wrre literally for this reason; to commune with those spirits!

I don't routinely dine with exorcists.  I know one, and used to routinely assist him during healing masses--but only when he explicitly asked me to.  I make it a point to not insert myself--I only assist when expressly requested to do so by the person in spiritual authority.

Working priests are very busy men, and they hunger for actual genuine human contact rather than wearing the pious mask 24/7 for the cat ladies.  If you've ever known one personally and seen them forced to do it, it's pretty painful to watch.  Retired priests have more social time and a lifetime of direct observation about the human condition.  Makes for some very interesting dinner conversations.  Offer to take a priest shooting, or show up occasionally on their day off with a couple ribeye steaks ready to grill, and some good beer.  He'd no doubt enjoy some no-bullshit guy time.

Within the Christian tradition, it is generally observed that Catholic exorcists are the most effective with cases of genuine demonic possession, so other denominations seek them out for training and to familiarize themselves with the framework for the ritual.  They teach a course about the ritual of solemn exorcism at the Vatican.  LINK...

All solemn exorcisms are conducted with the express permission of the local Bishop, who holds spiritual authority over a given region.  The spiritual realm has laws--evil spirits are bound by those laws, they can't just do whatever they want.   Demonic possession is (spiritually) like a legal contract, a lease of sorts.  The evil spirit has a right to be there.  The exorcism is the process of revoking that right, because the person who granted the authority has realized their error.  The Authority underpinning the exorcism is the will of God--God's love for humanity, and His readiness/willingness to forgive transgression--and the Name of Jesus Christ.

As has been stated, other religions and spiritual disciplines also practice exorcism.  I once knew a woman whose father was a Voudou priest, and she claimed to have familairity with those sorts of exorcisms. I'm not familiar with their practices, and don't know what authority (or incentives) they use to accomplish their desired effect--or if they see it as mechanistic, like an electrician fixing a short-circuit in wiring and restoring utility.

Last thought--as a Christian, I'd say that if you feel intrigued and want to know more about the occult, want to explore it further--don't.  Focus your attention on Love, Forgiveness and Charity.  I feel that exploring this topic is a minefield full of pitfalls and spiritually deadly man-traps--and generally speaking, those who feel most drawn to Christian Deliverance ministry are the people who probably shouldn't get involved with it in the first place.  Basically if God wants you to get involved, he will let you know--and if you decide to insert yourself and get out beyond your own personal spiritual authority, you'll quickly find yourself swimming with sharks.

The volume and thickness of the smoke struck me as more odd than the color, to be honest. There’s not that much material in one of these boards, so I wouldn’t expect a thick, boiling cloud of smoke out of one.

I’ve seen a LOT of shit burn, from SINCGARS batteries, commo wire, wood of all kinds, paint, ammo, propellants, you name it. I expect weird colors and smokes out of that, but not out of a Masonite board with an alphabet printed on it.

The ink probably has chlorine in the formulation, but damn that thing put out some smoke.

Anyway, I thought it was strange. I’m probably not possessed at the moment.

So, you routinely dine with exorcist?

Are they Catholic priests?

Side note question; wasn't there some news reports on the Catholic church training exorcists from other Christians religions?  Would have been in the last decade.

LINK...

While I don’t agree with everything you have stated here, due to personal experience that spans almost 30 years, I will say parts of it are very true and well stated. Especially from “Focus on” and what follows.

The usual thread, with the usual cast of characters saying all the usual things (both condescending and credulous) that they've all said a dozen times before in a dozen similar threads--so I will say the one useful thing which I always try to say for the benefit of first-time lurkers:  IF you are a believing Christian, you need to know that casually experimenting with the occult (even out of boredom, or in perfect/misguided unbelief), ANY conscious decision to engage in the occult arts of Divination or Necromancy is a grievous sin and an affront to God, and you should make a confession of that sin, ask God to forgive you, and formally renounce the practice.  That palm reader that your wife brought you to?  Yeah--that's a sin.  Formally repent and atone for that--and renounce the practice.

As for the braying skeptics who ridicule the notion of religion and the existence "some sky God", and who boastfully proclaim that they have used a Ouija board and "nothing happened"--are you sure?  How (exactly) would you know that "nothing happened"?  Because you aren't aware of it?  What if the death of your soul, the ironclad Unbelief with which you became so pridefully indwelt--what if your overarching sense that the notion that a God existing is ludicrous--found its exact headwater in that exact moment of spiritual error?

May the Lord bless you, and surprise you with joy.

Not related to Oujia boards per se, but relevent to the supernatural:

Had a good friend back in college who ended up with a job in healthcare.  Side note, the guy was also in phenomenal shape, tall and pretty big.  He worked with patients who had severe mental issues and sometimes needed restraint to prevent harm to themselves and others.  Very smart and very pragmatic guy.

Went to hang out with this dude and some other friends at a party one friday and he was weird acting.  Totally out of character.

Turns out this guy had a patient who overpowered him that day and referred to themselves in the plural.  What fucked with the guy was it was a 12 year old girl.  She grabbed his wrists and moved his arms like it was nothing.

He definitely believed there was some stuff going on that science could not explain.  I think anyone who writes off the supernatural is pretty narrow minded.

Ouija boards are dangerous.  Don't believe the people who scoff at their power.  I have known too many people in my life who have had too many negative experiences.

There are entities that use it as a conduit into people's lives.  Most of the time these encounters result in nothing good.

Believe it or not; I don't care.

It's not a toy.

It could be considered to be a supernatural medium by some. Some say its just a toy, while others have claimed it to be down right demonic. I believe i heard someone one time say that one thing leads to another.

That is all.

I made the mistake of consulting a self-proclaimed fortune teller with a familiar spirit about who I would marry.  She predicted it was someone I couldn't stand.  I was hounded by an entity for years that tried its best to get me interested in that woman.  Although I repented of it long ago, I'm not 100% sure that entity is gone for good.

I do not mess around with the occult anymore.

If you believe with your mind, will, and emotions, that this entity remains in the role of oppressing you, then maybe you should do some work about changing that. Jesus Christ said, or eternally says, that if a man believes himself to be in a certain state or condition, then this is the state or condition that he will be in. Sounds simple but actually it is not. So, speaking in the metaphorical Biblical sense, it may be time to re-sweep out your inner man, or the spiritual man, again, and then that spirit will have to leave you. So, pray and ask God in all honesty and humility, and ask the Holy Spirit of God to do so which if not immediately then in His timing He will do so.

But then, after your house is swept and clean, you must refurnish and decorate it with the word of God and with true and loving Christian relationships as if you want, then you will find. If not these things, then, the same type of spiritual oppression, the next time around, which will likely be worst than the first time you ever encountered this spirit at all.

I think you may have a spiritual, "revolving door," right now problem more than anything else. Continual daily prayers for you sent out. I believe now you should do the same. Find encouragement through God's word today and through the Spirit of God who is truly greater than all. That spirit will go, but then you must ensure it does not return with some of its buddies with it if there is a next time around. You have the authority in Christ to absolutely make this not happen and then gain the upper hand over them! Then they will go looking for somebody else who is not as wise as you.

That is all.

I remember being told by a friend that he and some friends held a Ouija board session one night.  One girl asked when she would die and the entity spelled out "tomorrow."  Of course they all laughed.  She was hit by a car and killed while out jogging the next day.

The friend who told me the story almost broke down in tears telling me about it.  I do not think for a minute he was messing with me.
