Um, no.

The E39 5 series is the answer. Even the new 5's are trying to look like the classic lines of the E39.

They've done their hardest to become a boutique brand.  A base model 4 series with the 3.0L is within $5k of a friggin Corvette.

A 435i with a few options.....is about $60k.

The M235i bases at $44k, add a few things and its $50k+

While not as bad as Porsche, BMW nickel and dimes you on the extras.

Yep.  And like that, you're into barely used Z06/Porsche money.

I loved BMWs growing up, but I cannot imagine buying anything of theirs now (that has more than two wheels, anyways).

That's the damn truth.  $3k for a nav system?  Give me a break.

BMW - the Buick of Europe

You guys notice how all cars look almost identical now?

In the old days you could take the make and model of a car at a glance, now it's hard to tell one from the other

it's weird

Well with BMW the only thing they do is lop a few inches off the 7 series and either lop a few cylinders or a few liters to differentiate.

And if BMW is the Buick of Europe, they're doing pretty good car wise. At least they have proper drive trains.

Comparing used to new is just dumb.
Watch this:

My 400whp 2007 BMW 335 6MT with 23K on ODO cost less then a brand new Kia with 150whp and an AT.
