Probably not the "best military unit" patch but I've always gotten a chuckle out of this one.

I am going to guess “Bad to the Bone”

This is a rare patch from the 157th fighter interceptor squadron, SC Air Guard. They were the swamp Fox, then in 1960 they re-equipped with F-104A Starfighters which were called "The missile with a man in it." This patch was a play on that saying, with the missile with a Fox on it. My dad got this patch from one of the pilots when he was working in debriefing.
Attached File Not best, actually some of the worst. Two of my units in the USAF. The 58th EMS patch, aka the Allstate patch. "You're in good hands..." Then the 56th EMS, which always looked more like a civil defense air raid shelter sign to me. Attached File I provided munitions to the 61st TFTS, good old Spike. Attached File |

Any one of these:

Wow, that would go way off the reservation in today's PC climate. How old is that patch?

I was on a stinger missile team in my battalion in Germany around 1990. During a NATO Taceval we were being evaluated by some Dutch military stinger evaluators. They wore this patch on the shirt pocket with an image of a stinger missile splitting a MIG-25 in half. I finished my written test first and aced the aircraft recognition test and was talking to one of the evaluators and asked him about the patch. He had an extra one in his briefcase so he gave it to me. |

From my dad’s stuff, real signatures. He was on the Apollo/Saturn V program, ended up on the launch team |

That should say "SWALLOW ME" which is all fun and games until the first sergeant see it. No joke a guy changed his patch, we thought it was funny, the first sergeant did not.

AF always had the coolest patches. Army just gave us patches with a busted TV screen on them. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0070/0874/7556/products/[email protected] View Quote Army division patches are worn by 10s of thousands of men at any given point in time, and those patches have been present for some serious history. Of the remaining active divisions, 1st ID, 1st CD, and 101st ABN have the most iconic patches. 25th ID and 2nd ID have the worst. 4th ID, 10th MTN, and 82nd ABN are good. 3rd ID is relatively forgettable, and the armor patches are kind of disappointing given that they just re-used the same thing and changed the number. |

Quoted: Yep. During the Cold War in the 1970s & 1980s the first nukes dropped on Moscow were going to be dropped by US F-4 Phantoms flying out of Germany, able to reach Moscow but without enough fuel to get anywhere close to returning home. View Quote |
