maybe just lucky.. |

Every attack is an opportunity to gather sigint and refine their platforms to obtain a hit.
Every delay in smashing the source of the attack is aid and comfort. ETA: there is no political solution with non-state actors. Only violent ones. |

Sounds like we need to send them some missile guidance technology like we did for the Chinese for "peaceful purposes" Thanks, Bill Clinton

"Within a mile..." That's vague, believe it or not. CIWS score? Having your CIWS engage is nice, but bad at the same time.

@sentdefender According to a U.S. Defense Official the Arleigh Burke-Class Guided-Missile Destroyer, USS Gravely (DDG-107) was forced to use her Phalanx Close-In Weapons Systems (CIWS) last night during a “Close Call” with a Anti-Ship Cruise Missile launched by the Houthi Terrorist Group in Western Yemen; the Cruise Missile is reported to have come within 1 Mile of the Ship likely following a Miss or Malfunction with an SM-2 Interceptor Missile. https://twitter.com/sentdefender/status/1752790746141213006 |

Pretty soon there will be more Sailors than Marines walking around with CARs on their ribbon rack.
Why did Biden and the Democrats delist the Houthis as a terrorist organization and berate the Saudis from fighting them? |

The lads that were aboard the USS ANTRIM can tell you what happens even when you do successfully engage with your CIWS.

If one of those missiles gets through and scores a hit, biden will retaliate with even sterner language.

If it was a Phalanx kill, then either the system failed or the ship’s crew did something wrong.

Within 1 mile can mean a lot. Was it 1 mile high, while mile away and in line with, or was in 1 mile off the stern or bow? The in line option means it is in line with the target and 1 mile out when it was destroyed.

SM-2s ain’t perfect, so there will be this types of events. Why they need to fix the problem at the source, much as it pains me to think of HiLuxs getting blown up. But they need to get more aggressive in dealing with the Houthis.
Excuse my ignorance, but with all the eyes and technology focused in a small area can't they see a launch fairly early and send a tomahawk response to the launch coordinates?
They only have to be lucky once...we have to be perfect 100% of the time. It's just a matter of time before they get lucky.
If it’s true that the SM-2 interceptor missile missed or malfunctioned, that was an expensive failure—just a little north of $2 million if the interwebs are a reasonable ballpark.

I'm glad we are deplwtingour inventory of shipboard SAMs instead of glassing the sand cowboys and their suppliers/enablers.
That surely won't bite us in the ass when the real shootemup starts. |

Damn, the Carney has been kicking ass.
I wonder if there are some Chinese on that Iranian vessel, surprised they don’t have one of their intel ships there. |
Perspective for our Infantry brothers; what happened to this ship was the equivalent of shooting a bad guy with your M9 as he comes over the sandbags of your foxhole.

Is counter-battery fire a thing for ballistic missiles? What’s the playbook to counter China’s rocket force? Why aren’t we using it here?
How are they getting (what seems to be) high quality targeting information? Can we get some more EW? How much talk over the last few years has there been about near-peer warfare? Well, here it is. Let’s get to deterring, because the Houthis don’t seem to be deterred right now. |
Quoted: Why are we playing around with these people.? View Quote Because, despite what GDers think, the Biden administration is afraid of escalating this with Iran in an election year. If they were serious about ending these attacks, they'd sink the Iranian ship that's supplying intel to the Houthis. Instead, they'll, seemingly ineffectively, just keep bombing "weapons storage and launch sites" in the desert while the Houthis continue to launch drones and missiles. |
Wonder how many observers from Russia and China are involved?
Quoted: Correct Was it crossing or on terminal towards the ship? The difference changes the narrative. View Quote CWIS doesn't waste its time or ammo on missiles that are not going to hit the hull. It could have been put into the manual mode and forced to intercept a crossing target but doubtfully. I have seen target drones pass within 200-300' of the front on a carrier and the CWIS tracked the missile the whole way knowing it wasn't going to hit the ship. |
