The 225 U.S. Mint anniversary coin is one ounce (IIRC) of .9999 fine Pure Gold.
I don't like the design one bit. |

They are the most over-indulged, pampered, spoiled group of people in the history of our species, and at the same time are the most destructive and useless. They produce offspring like over-sized cowbirds, forcing others to shoulder the burden of feeding and raising them. What a sick, perverse society we have created. View Quote |

Given that it's a $100 gold piece - as in 1 troy ounce, so worth $1,250 - I'll be happy to take them off your hands if you're just inundated with them. View Quote |

I would respectfully disagree. Lady Liberty is an idea, not an entity whose image is set in stone. We can make her into whatever image we wish and it wouldn't be wrong. Pick a better battle and lose your shit when churches portray Jesus as a blond-haired and blue eyed European. Your indignation would be better served there. View Quote |

The coin is the first in a series to feature a different version of Lady Liberty. In subsequent coins, she'll be featured as Asian-American, Hispanic-American and Indian-American among others.
"among others" refers to the fag coin that will follow that has two heads . |

Just like feeling up 12 year old white kids, and 85 year old grandmothers, while letting 18-40 year old muslim males waltz through security...we are so tolerant, see??!!! |

Anything other than some variation of the Statue of Liberty is just adding diversity for the sake of diversity. It represents individuality rather than liberty.
I'm not for having an American Indian, African American, Asian, or any other deliberately recognizable personification any more than I want to see it redesigned to look like Cindy Crawford or some other ideal White female. While the 18th century depictions of Liberty are fairly obviously based on the Caucasian race it has morphed into a symbol as opposed to the person who modeled it. If we are going to change the symbol for Liberty it should not be multiple symbols that signify the differences in the American population but rather one symbol that represents the idea of liberty for all. What's next? Are we going to have a male that looks like Obama? Maybe Bailey Jay too? The political correctness has gotten out of hand. |

North Africa comprised almost half of the Roman Empire. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/50575/map9rom2-180176.JPG My issue with crap like this is that it is clearly meant to convey a certain viewpoint and message, and to pander, rather than simply portray liberty. If it just came out of the blue, outside of this political context, that would be a very different thing, although this particular depiction isn't very good looking, anyways. Wouldn't be the first ugly Lady Liberty on a coin. For those who think that only the Statue of Liberty version is acceptable, there have been more depictions of liberty that do not look like the statue than depictions that do. More common than the crown or tiara is the slave's cap (I forget if there's a more proper name for it or not). Personally, I have some inclinations towards replacing real people with depictions of liberty on our currency, which used to be the standard practice for all but base metal coins up until paper money started to appear. The other side generally had an eagle in some form or another. |
