Tom Cruise will "hopefully" become "the first civilian to do a spacewalk" outside of the International Space Station when he blasts off to space to shoot a new action movie with director Doug Liman. Donna Langley, the head of Universal Pictures, teased as much during a recent BBC interview. Universal is backing the Cruise space project, which reportedly carries a budget in the $200 million range. While it was already known the movie would shoot scenes on the ISS, Langley said the plan is to also have Cruise perform a spacewalk.

They picked Tom, not because of his acting, but his miniscule size makes getting him to space a much more affordable venture.

Say what you will, the man is dedicated to doing his own stunts.

The poster midget for Scientology is gonna try to meet Xenu in person?

I guess they see the 200 mil as part of the marketing budget, because space is definitely the one place where CGI makes sense

Got to admit. Dude has got to rock the acting gig to do stuff other people have never done.

$200 million budget with $30-$60 million to Cruise?
How much is it to send Cruise and any other required movie people to the ISS? |
|

View Quote Not only that but he gets the studios to fund all his fun and exciting ventures like getting certified as a stunt pilot, helicopter certification, riding in F/A 18's and previously F-14's and now not just going in to space, but getting to space walk. Sure, he drank the Scientology Kool-Aid, but he's gotten to do some bad ass stuff most armchair warriors only dream about. |

View Quote I would expect he'd be going on a Falcon 9 / Crew Dragon. Easily going to be tens of millions per seat. I think NASA has being paying $60 million per seat on their contract though I think that was signed years ago and actual costs may have come down since that deal was signed. |

He’s a good actor who makes good movies, is dedicated to his craft, has brass balls, doesn’t project his views on his audience or spout off to the media about how everyone else should live.
Gotta admire the life he’s lived. I’ll watch his movies. |

He’s basically a king to them and gets free reign. I listened to an interview with Leah Remini and she talked about how all the rules didn’t apply to him and he was the only one that had his own team of servants even though that wasn’t what they called them. |

I imagine he's just as qualified to do that as NASA's never ending parade of "first insert_minority" they keep sending up there.

6. Cruise climbed a 2,000-foot cliff in "Mission: Impossible 2." In the opening scene of 2000's "M: I 2," Cruise is seen climbing a cliff. And yes, that's really him. Cruise scaled the cliff in Utah with nothing but a safety rope. He also did a 15-foot jump from one cliff to another. 4. Cruise broke his ankle jumping between buildings while making "Mission: Impossible — Fallout." |

Hell, they could make a movie about his life that would have more action in it than many “action” flicks.
