The Iranians have F-14's, and mountains, and they're not a major US movie market country that Hollywood would refuse to risk offending (coughCHINAcough). Assuming the bad guys ain't aliens my money is on Iran. I wouldn't be astonished if this went in a Firefox direction, Mav steals an Iranian Tomcat after being shot down on a mission over Tehran. And the Tomcat at the end...flying over mountains. We'll find out next June. |

They did. IP in the back of a 2-seater. He was flying in Lemoore all last summer. View Quote Tom doesn't own that plane, the taxpayers do. Seriously, how'd he manage to get in the front seat? |

Interesting comment...
"In a new interview with Collider, Hamm has also been hyping the film’s reportedly complex special effects. “They’re using some technology on this that is never before seen,” he said. “We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs.” https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/jul/18/tom-cruise-top-gun-maverick-trailer |

I’m beginning to think Tom Cruise only makes these movies so he can do the cool stuff while filming.
The movie might indeed suck but the action shots look spectacular! |

Oh dear,
If there is as much Hornet action in the movie as in the trailer, I could die from an erection lasting more than 2 hours. |

I'm betting he's actually piloting those. Not tandom or cgi. View Quote Despite making fun of Top Gun it's actually one of my favorite movies and I'll watch it whenever it's on. I'm probably going to see this movie. |

Just bought the F/A-18 module for dcs last week. I'll be in my bunk.

Set photo spoiler.
Click To View Spoiler F-14 with USN nose roundel replaced with some red eagle looking thing, possibly an eagle, possibly a phoenix symbolizing rebirth. Not directly Iranian, but it's got the flavor of some of their symbology, and I can't quite tell but the sign text could be Persian squiggles. Could be the invented symbol of an imaginary notIran country, or a private training company that pieced a Tomcat together for dissimilar air combat training. ETA: Also, there's an American female pilot character call sign Phoenix

Looks like it'll suck. Hell, half the scenes in the trailer look like they were just rehashing the SAME scenes from the original. Also, obligatory female fighter pilot named "Phoenix", for the SJW crowd. ETA: F-14 at the end was definitely CGI. View Quote |

Looks like worth a watch just for the in air sequences. Even if it sucks as a movie, that still looks pretty epic.

I’m putting money on that Tom Cruise doesn’t really make bad movies. The guys been in 50 movies not every one of them can be an 11 out of 10. This movie will be great!

As reported by Hollywood Pipeline (click here to check out more photos), Cruise, Teller and crew gathered inside a hangar to go over the day’s shooting schedule before heading out to start filming. 31 year old Teller is playing the role of Goose’s son, Bradley Bradshaw who is the protege to Maverick in the sequel. Inside the hangar they filmed some scenes featuring an F-14 Tomcat. According to CVW – US Navy Carrier Air Wing Aircraft 1975-2015 book series Facebook Page, the Tomcat in question was “F-14A BuNo 159631 (on the charge of the San Diego Air & Space Museum) which was recently seen ‘road running’ in the Lake Tahoe, California area in a post by the California Highway Patrol, believed en route to a site for use in the filming of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. Well, she’s received markings of a spurious air force and is seen in this post going through rehearsals…just a shame any flying F-14s in the film will be only via CGI.” According to some Facebook rumors the Tomcat in Top Gun: Maverick will play the role of enemy aircraft. In November, the actor had reportedly delayed filming for the hotly-anticipated sequel so that he could master a new skill – piloting fighter jets. An insider told The Sun: ‘He already has a license to fly planes but isn’t qualified to fly fighter jets, which he’s now learning to do.’ ‘He won’t film all the flight sequences — it’s too dangerous — but he will fly some, making him the first actor in cinema history to do so. The producers would prefer not to put their leading man, not to mention their whole film, at risk.’ As we have already explained the movie was assigned a theatrical release date of Jul. 12, 2019 last year, but on September Paramount announced that had delayed the sequel nearly an entire year, assigning it a new release date of Jun. 26, 2020. Noteworthy as already reported Maverick’s rides for Top Gun sequel will be a cool special painted F/A-18F Super Hornet (which experienced a mid-air issue while it was flying with Tom Cruise on board in September) and a new motorcycle that Tom Cruise already drove around airfield (as he did on a Kawasaki Ninja in the 1986 original) as shown in first pictures from Top Gun: Maverick set. Top Gun: Maverick will likely feature the Navy’s new Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters alongside older Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. https://theaviationgeekclub.com/top-gun-maverick-to-feature-the-iconic-f-14-tomcat/ Iran is the only foreign user of the F-14, so they should have just made it Iranian. Goose's son is a major role in the film as well. Hmmm |

Its only fitting they have Mav riding the Iconic and Incredible Supercharged Kawasaki H2 in the movie. 3 Pages deep into the thread and no one mentioned it yet. It must not matter much then, disregard.

Good thing he didn't need to punch out of that thing. Don't think your shoulder harness is suppose to be down over the arms.
Surprised he wouldn't float out of the seat during maneuvers. |
