Trump sues CNN claiming defamation, seeks $475 million in punitive damages By Dan Whitcomb Oct 3 (Reuters) - Former U.S. president Donald Trump sued CNN for defamation on Monday, seeking $475 million in punitive damages and claiming that the network had carried out a "campaign of libel and slander" against him. Trump claims in his lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, that the network had used its influence as a leading news organization to defeat him politically. CNN declined to comment on the case. Trump claims in the lawsuit that CNN has used such defamatory labels against him as "racist," "Russian lackey," "insurrectionist" and "Hitler." The lawsuit comes as the former president faces a criminal investigation by the Justice Department for retaining government records at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after leaving office in January 2021. |

Well it certainly isn't like they haven't defamed him and veritas got undercover video showing they knew the truth while spreading lies.
That said it's 2022. There's no chance the left will let their justice system hurt a loyal and very useful fellow traveler. |

It'll get thrown out of court, but it seems like that kinda cash would sink them if it didn't and he won. They don't seem to be doing that good lately.

Would new management fight it or make it go away and say that was those guys we fired.

CNN lied about Trump 24/ 7 for years.
This suit will be thrown out of court in no time because orange man bad. |

Hopefully this will be the one that reverses NYT vs Sullivan.
That said, the same people that bitch about Barbra Streisand effect will be the ones cheering DJT on. |

Regardless of anyones feelings towards Trump, I’d hoped GD could at least stop clutching their pearls to root for him over CNN, an obvious communist organization. Guess my expectations were too high.

Oh, now we support defamation laws and hate free speech? It's hard to keep up with the flip-flopping around here.

The problem with this suit is that CNN is not considered by most to be a credible news site. Instead they are a parody news organization, and parody is protected speech.

I want to be on that jury. I won't give him $475m, I'll give him the entire assets of CNN....on to NBC, CBS, ABC NYT's and all other fake news.
I want the assets of those who waxed the floors along with those who delivered the donuts, those who made the phones work there... all the cogs that made the wheels of political hate and fake news happen. Same way they went after the telephone operators at the work camps in Germany and those who made bread for them. |

Defamation is a legal concept related to the First Amendment, but state laws generally define its elements. Lawyers for a public figure such as Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump would need to prove false statements were knowingly published, with malice, or with a reckless disregard for their accuracy. That “actual malice” test goes back to the Supreme Court’s New York Times v. Sullivan decision in March 1964.
He may have a case after all. |

Soooo if T$ wins, he should be one the new owner of cnn.
That's one way to beat the media. |

Defamation is not free speech and yes, I have and still support laws that prevent you from smearing people by spreading information you know to be false. So do most others. It's not the least bit controversial. |
