It's almost cliche to have it at Thanksgiving .
This year we had Elk instead (I work this evening) it was absolutely delicious. |

I can't stand any of the traditional holiday foods. Give me a steak and I'll be thankful.

Are you some sort of Tier 1 Edgelord Hipster OP?
You're wearing skinny jeans and an ironic t-shirt right now aren't you. |

I always hated holiday hams. Ham is just fine, I just got sick of it being served at every family holiday event. One Easter, I left our family dinner and got some roast beef sandwiches from Hardee's to eat instead. Everyone else had their ham and cheesey potatoes, I had my roast beef sandwiches and curly fries.

O_P is dead-on-the-money correct...turkey sucks, period.
feel free to take mine |

I agree.
That’s why we will be having honey baked ham and a prime rib roast. |
|
Deep fried Turkey tacos with homemade salsa is GTG.
I'm cooking some spicy sausage and stuff on the grill today. |

Mitch Hedberg - Turkey needs to be himself joke |

Last night I cooked med rare cool center ten oz tenderloins that I cut myself.
That was way better than the traditional dinner we will have later today. Less carbs as well. |
|
I have it like five times a year, so I'm not bored with it. Looking forward to eating it today to turkey and dressing. But I guess in all honesty, I'm looking forward to the side dishes more than the turkey.

That tryptofan buzz though...
Goes great with beer and football. Perhaps you need more gravy. And mashed potatoes. And stuffing. |

Club sandwiches are life. You can’t have a club sandwich without turkey. Therefore op is wrong.

OP is right.
Growing up, my dad hated all poultry, so we usually ate steak or hamburgers for TG. Never developed a taste for it, but I will eat it if its there. MIL is cooking today, so I will eat a little turkey to be respectful, but I'm saving room for PIE! |

Ham and turkey both suffer the same problem. It's $2/lb bulk protein to feed a gaggle of people. I'd wager few families go out of their way to even buy quality, let alone cook it worth a damn. View Quote When we got married my husband asked that I never make turkey because he didn't like it. First Thanksgiving with his mom I found out why - she always overcooked them and they came out tough and dry. I slow roasted one in the oven and he couldn't believe the difference. If it's cooked properly turkey is great. |

As long as it’s brined and smoked or fried, it’s good to go!
The best part is the left over gobbler sammiches you can make. Hoagie roll, Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and whatever else is around on a bun! |

Makes a good sandwich as leftovers. That's pretty much the only way I really like it.

As a kid I would get up and be told not to eat so I wouldn't spoil the Thanksgiving meal. Besides, the kitchen was tied up cooking that stuff. Then we wouldn't eat at noon, or at 1:00. Maybe by 3 or 4 the meal would be ready and I would have to content myself with choking down a slice of overly dried turkey with a couple rolls... And then, for the next two days we would have leftovers. I know some people really like turkey but I'm convinced most people don't. You don't see a Kentuky Fried Turkey resturant. You don't see people buying turkey to cook outside of the holidays. People do eat turkey sandwitches but that's mostly becuase people have been convinced by marketing that turkey is somehow healthier than other meats. |

Last year, we tried making Karaage with a turkey breast. This year, my daughter wanted it again, so we prepped the meat, tossed it in the marinade, and stuck it back in the refrigerator, last night. It'll be fried, later this morning.

I'd prefer beef myself but since we are always invited elsewhere for Thanksgiving dinner and someone else is willing to do the shopping, prep, cooking and cleanup, I'm more than happy to eat whatever they serve.

But, what would they feed people at renaissance festivals?
My meal is made up of just about everything but the turkey. Maybe a slice. Unless it's injected and deep fried. Then, that's a different story. |

It's the other stuff that make it good.
The gravy the drippings make The chestnut stuffing come guys tiss but once a year Make a turkey for Thanksgiving |

I am not a turkey person. I make one for a few folks that come that want some but the centerpiece and what is asked for by guests ever year is my thanksgiving brisket.

We’re having turkey, prime rib, ham, and crab.
There’s lots of ways to make turkey so that it’s not boring. Happy Thanksgiving! |

I'm frying our bird.
I rarely make turkey all year, so it's a nice change on turkey day. |

I like turkey, it cooking the bird is a pain. This year buying a fried turkey.

I stuffed my turkey , with more birds. And a few other things
