I think you're being a little melodramatic... the article clearly states the devices don't seem intended to kill, merely injure. I'd like more specifics, but as long as the damage is temporary I don't think it's on the same level as you're placing it. |

Appears to be used tires set alight... That is a lot of speed cams they have hit...you thingk the .gov would get the message that they are despised by the populace...IMO thye are nothing more than income generators. I was talking to my Pops a couple of days ago and mentioned that whenever you see the blue lights flashing behind you you can feel your wallet getting thinner at best...or you bank account at worst...They never pull you up to complent your driving or to tell you to pick up your speed a little bit |

I liked your post better before you edited it... |

I'm talking letter bombs in general...... [Hell the hell do you spell Kakzenski?] The unabomber killed several people. This is what people are agreeing with. Killing people with letter bombs. Big companies' executives don't open their mail, some mailroom guy does. BTW if you know anything besides what is in this thread you would know that one of the letters went to an accounting office, not just the speed camera HQ. At least that was the report on Fox News. |
|
|
As far as the letter bomb, well, I'd say it's wrong, but mainly because it injured those workers, as to the burning of the cameras, that seems like a creative way to deal with the problem. Again, I won't condone it, but you won't hear me shouting into a megaphone to stop the destruction of speed cameras.

LONDON — A letter bomb exploded Tuesday at an office southwest of London, injuring two people, in the second attack of its kind in two days, officials said.
Army bomb-disposal units surrounded an office belonging to Vantis PLC, a tax and accounting company, after the small explosion at 9 a.m. in Wokingham, 40 miles southwest of London. Thames Valley police said it was "likely" that a piece of mail had ignited and caused the "small explosion." It was too soon to say whether the explosion was linked to a letter bomb that detonated Monday in central London, injuring one person, police added. On Monday, a padded envelope exploded at an office belonging to Capita Group PLC, which administers an $16 daily fee for vehicles meant to cut down on traffic in central London and collects television licensing fees. A Vantis spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with company practice, confirmed the attack. Bombing Mystery The two employees injured in the explosion were not hospitalized, he said, adding: "My understanding is that they are in a bit of shock." The Irish Republican Army used letter bombs in the early 1970s as part of its campaign to end British rule in Northern Ireland, targeting numerous British government offices. The tactic maimed dozens of people but killed nobody. In recent years, animal rights activists have also sent letter bombs to people involved in animal testing. |

Ban guns! It will save them all.... Wait a second they did it already.... How is this possible with the sheeple?
I guess if there is a will there is a way. When will people learn that you can legislate the evil in people. Max |

Anyone have any other methods for taking out traffic cameras?
For academic purposes. |
|
Sounds like the second one, didn't go off or just caught fire.
And the first one isn't a speeding camera facility. It is a toll camera collection facility. looks like there is some conflicting stories. The above is from Fox News.com |

Pipe bomb? Thermite? Cutting torch? |

+1 GOOD. I mean, oh no that is a terrible thing to do. I would never condone a "terrorist act" like that. |

Dallas. The whole DFW area. Speed cameras and red light cameras. And I don't like big brother watching my every move! There are cameras all along our highways too, at least one every mile. (Not speed cameras, just cameras to watch us.) |
|
|
Imagine that....people pushing back against a government that's getting too pushy.
I can't say that's a bad thing. In fact, I approve. It's only a matter of time before this starts happening here in the US, too. CJ |
|
Those cameras are there to help TxDot control traffic flows, assist motorists who break down, etc. I have no problem with that. As for red-light cameras they are not that widespread. TRG |

Civil disobedience at it's finest. Maybe there is hope yet for our brothers across the pond.

Sure they are real, but not everyone has a thousand dollar + machine sitting around to play with. To add to the list, I'd think a decent .22 cal pellet gun, or even a good .177 would do nasty things to a glass lens. -Storm |

Large industrial fireworks have proven very effective at 'eliminating' GASTO cameras and Parking Meters…
ANdy Exploding meters, parking vigilantes and a suspicious silence in a sleepy Sussex town By Jason Bennetto, Crime Correspondent Published: 13 January 2007 The respectable looking lady at the tea shop in the Sussex market town of Lewes was an unlikely advocate of urban terrorism. "Everyone I know is secretly pleased about the attacks. No one would mind if every last one was blown to pieces," she confided in a hushed tone. "If I knew who was carrying out the explosions I wouldn't tell the police. Good luck to them, I say," she added. So what is the object of such passion and hatred in a town usually associated with literature, music, antiques, and good taste? It is the parking meter. Since new parking restrictions were introduced - some say imposed - in Lewes in September 2004, there has been a remarkable backlash in which a group of vigilantes and vandals have been blowing up the newly installed meters. So far there have been more than 200 attacks in which 35 of the town's 96 meters have been written off, while repairs have been needed on a further 170 machines at a total cost of £300,000. The covert bombers have used a variety of devices ranging from simple bangers and powerful crow scarers, to a mix of firework explosives that have scrambled the innards of the meters. In the latest incident, which happened in the past month, two machines were blown up. In response to the attacks the local county and district councils are offering a joint £5,000 reward to catch the culprits, and this week launched a publicity campaign called "exploding parking meters - a threat to your safety". Sussex Police are also using undercover street patrols as part of their investigation, known as Operation Magee, amid fears that someone will be maimed by shrapnel from a blast. For many outsiders these bombings will seem completely out of character for such a sophisticated town. Facing the rolling South Downs from the banks of the river Ouse, Lewes has long prided itself on its proximity to the Glyndebourne opera festival; Charleston Farmhouse, focal point for the Bloomsbury Group; and Monk's House, home of Leonard and Virginia Woolf. But Lewes is not all high art, it also has a long history of radical protests and dissent. One of the town's most famous former residents is Thomas Paine, the champion of the oppressed. Paine is said to have drawn on the town's dissenting tradition when it came to formulating his own ideas, leaving Lewes in 1774 and going on to write his famous Rights of Man. The town also continues to ignore religious sensibilities by annually burning an effigy of the Pope on bonfire night, in remembrance of the 17 Protestant martyrs burnt at the stake from 1555 to 1557. This fascination with fireworks is thought to be linked to the current meter bombings. Many of the businesses in the town blame the introduction of the meters for driving away customers. Merlin Milner, the mayor of Lewes, believes the new pay-and-display machines, backed by over-zealous private traffic wardens, are unnecessary. "Lewes is a small market town of 16,500 people, it's not meant to be a police state. These parking measures are a sledge hammer to crack a small nut," he said. He was quick, however, to condemn the meter bombings. "It is a form of terrorism - there are better, more democratic ways of making your point," he said. David Quinn, the president of Lewes' Chamber of Commerce, added: "Everyone I have spoken to about the exploding meters immediately thinks it's funny because they don't like the parking scheme, but they also realise there is a potential danger." He added: "There's an old saying: that people in Lewes will not be druv - not pushed or told what to do." In response to criticism of the parking scheme East Sussex County Council has changed the traffic wardens' red uniforms, partly because it was considered to be an aggressive colour that had earned them the nickname the "red devils". Their new outfit is blue. And the new term of abuse for them? The "blue meanies". But this form of vigilantism is not unique. In August last year Craig Moore blew up a speed camera in an attempt to escape a fine. Mr Moore, 28, returned to the roadside machine in the Manchester area and used explosive material, once used to make bombs and now common in the welding industry, to destroy the device. But he did not realise that his actions were being recorded by the camera itself. http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/crime/article2149724.ece |

Fuckin' A right! At least someone over there has the balls to do something. I don't agree with the bomb, but I love what they are doing to the cameras. Did you see the one with the "free country" sticker on it put there by the |

I do not agree with the letter bombs, but good for the Brits taking out those revenue cameras. If the .gov ever starts doing this crap in the South, they will have to seal them in 2 inch armor plate to stop the bullets directed at them. Fire and paint are probably safer though.

The usual method for taking out those cameras is to hang an old tire over them and then set the tire on fire.
I'd give a big thumbs up to the use of thermite. Need some? Your local electrical supplier may sell Erico "Cadweld" products. Cadweld shots are containers of thermite, available in several charge weights. The largest size charges will do a number on your engine block. The smallest ones will perforate your car's hood with ease. CJ |

I don't know how it works in Britain or the US, but up here if my truck gets a ticket I have little recourse. I get the ticket, it does not matter if I was driving, my wife, or it was stolen, I will still get the ticket and still be forced to pay (though I did fight one, could not get it killed, but they went from 150 dollars to 20 dollars, got it rushing my wife to the hospital when our first pregnancy started going south real sudden like) they say it is for safety, not sure how that matters, a cop pulls me over I smarten up and drive more inline with what us considered proper, if I get a photo I do not even know until 6 weeks later..... does not affect my driving, of course now I just let my plate stay dirty, all the time |

Where is this tyranny happening to voters? Do you even know the definition of tyranny?
Which part? The part that gives people the right send letter bombs and injure the mailroom workers of an accounting office? Yeah, I missed that part. Maybe YOU shoud post that part of The Constitution. I would like to read it.
Again....I think you need a dictionary. If you reply, please let it be with some thoughts that are original and not you trying to recycle someone elses thoughts that you don't really understand. |

I'm confused.
Here on the ARFcom where someone is practically driven off the site and chastised for having a non-922r compliant gun, we're cheering English subjects sticking it to the man??? Oh sweet irony. |

terrorism is very effective, more so than a lone gunman. 19 hijackers were able to change quite a bit in our own country, we've pissed away many rights and liberties. i'm not endorsing, just saying. |

They should review the video footage to see who might have done it.
Wait... |

Video footage of a GATSO being torched… |

Well I'll be damned. |

It seems Like I recall a camera a few years back in scottsdale getting shot all to crap,a red light camera I think.Knowing the way .gov loves da money I'm sure they can take a few rounds now.I don't recall the "bad guy" ever getting caught, you would think the man would be perading that around if they did catch him.

Civil disobideance can be a good thing, however I don't like the personal injury.

Another parcel bomb has exploded this morning at the main Government Vehicle & Driver Licensing Office in Swansea… injuries reported
Letter bomb injures DVLA worker A woman has been injured by a letter bomb which exploded at the main DVLA centre in South Wales, police say. The attack, which happened at about 0930 GMT on Wednesday, is the third of its kind on motoring-related companies in three consecutive days. Police said the latest blast happened in the post room of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency in Swansea. An accountancy firm in Berkshire was targeted on Tuesday, and the central London offices of Capita on Monday. A DVLA spokesman said emergency services had been called and were dealing with the incident. "A female member of staff was injured and the lady is on her way to hospital as a result of the incident," he said. The DVLA maintains registers of drivers and vehicles and is responsible for road safety. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6338063.stm |

Everyone else under British rule has had a revolution; its high time for the Britons themselves to engage in one.
|
|
Thermite is the best means of dealing with objects encased in metal, so I'm told.
|
|
There is absolutely nothing better than the proper amount and application of high explosives, however it does scatter debris over a larger area with a good chance of injuring a innocent bystander. Thus Thermite in conjuction with a coffer dam will yield spectacular results, it will melt everything and have a much less chance of hurting anyone. |

Police just blew up a suspicious package left by the main road in my hometown, Havant.

Burn some cameras?
Civil disobediance, expensive but understandable. Protest, try to change the laws? Correct. Injure innocents that have nothing to do with the policies set - Cowardly Bullshit. |
|
I'll bite, what is it? Thermite? |
|
|
Yes, they're real. But they are not really something anybody can make or get their hands on. I can make a pipe bomb. I can buy Thermite (it's used for industrial welding applications). I have an oxygen-acetylene cutting torch in my garage. I don't have, nor can I cheaply acquire, a plasma cutter. I wonder if suppressed subsonic .22LR would penetrate the lenses on these. I'm sure .300 Whisper would do the trick. |

"Civil disodedience" with "personal injury" is called "terrorism". |
