I’m super stoked.
Update:
Here it is with an Aero Precision lower and a Double Star stock (using an ARRB-C and no folding mechanism).  Next to a basic M&P Sport and a Valmet M76 for 5.56-goodness comparison:

Mating to the lower is tight(!).  Minus the stock, the length would be just a little over 26 inches.  The 180 is surprisingly slender - barely wider than a standard AR upper.
This also shows the view down the sights - the charging handle shouldn’t interfere with any optic mounts.
I’m quite happy with it.  Plan is for range action this weekend, with 55 and 62 gr.
If it performs well, I fully intend to order the shorter BRN-180 and get an approved Form 1.

Older:

I have an Aero Precision lower waiting for it.  And a Tango Down BG-16 - I’ve seen a few owners of actual AR-18s say it is the closest to the grip on an AR-18.

I always wanted an AR-18, and this scratches that itch quite nicely.

I always wondered how the AR-18 would have evolved if it had been adopted by the US instead of the AR-15.

I do like on the packaging that right after it says ".223 Wylde Chambering", the next line states it's compatible with 5.56 NATO.  For semi dumb gun guys like me, I know enough that .223 and 5.56 are different, but that was my first question after reading the first line.

The Type 89 muzzle device is actually good at reducing recoil without a lot of concussion or flash, at least the Strike copy is.

Japan.

Duh.

Edit: After some sleuthing, it appears this bayonet is unobtainium.

The box indicates ISONITE barrel.

All previous and CURRENT BRN-180 literature and write-ups and videos indicated NITRIDE.

"The 16" barrel is machined from extra-strong 4150 carbon steel, with a hard Nitride finish"

Whats the difference? Which is better?

Does that mean the ISONITE barrel is SS as PWS barrels are?

I am looking forward to any range report you might publish. It looks promising.

I wish they would do a non reciprocating side charger (NRSC) model with a 12" barrel. and a .308 rifle with non reciprocating side charge.

A side folding AR with NRSC and a 180 gas system would be megatitties.

A 20" light weight .308 rifle and a 12" 5.56 pistol. Yes please.

ISONITE® QPQ NITRIDING
ISONITE® QPQ (per SAE AMS 2753) is a high-performance variety of salt bath nitrocarburizing process. It is also known as Melonite® and Liquid/Salt Bath Ferritic Nitrocarburizing (FNC) process. It is a thermochemical diffusion process whereby nitrogen-bearing salts generate a controlled release of nitrogen at the interface of a ferrous part.

BENEFITS

Improved Durability
Corrosion Resistance Better than Chrome Plating
Low Material Distortion
Greater Resistance To abrasion And seizure
Fatigue Endurance is Extended
Heat Resistance
Uniform and Beautiful Black Appearance

Needs a straight charging handle.  The crank was great on the original for going over the top.

Don’t work too well with a rail and optic.

Firing possible from folder.

Gas piston.

Dual operating rod.

Easily removed MLOK handguard.

I so want one to cut down to 10" if Brownells doesn't sell a shorter upper.  Put that on my FightLite lower with a Magpul 870 stock.

Assuming it's identical to the standard AR-180 and B charging handle, anybody with any sort of knowledge of metalworking could easily make any kind of charger they want.

Not a candidate for DIY shortening. Too much involved with gas system. You will have to wait for Brownells.

I for one have little interest in a shorter version. 16 inch is great and actually shorter than the AR-18 or AR-180.

I'm interested in one, but as others already put out there I'm interested in an SBR sized upper.

I'd also like to see different handguard options show up. I know a retro styled handguard is probably too much to ask though.

I don't like reciprocating charging handles but I am seriously tempted to get one. They said they are working on shorter versions but need to make sure the piston system is tuned and reliable.

Yes the BG-16 is the grip I selected for mine and very nice in coming close to the AR-18.

I will attempt to drill a hole in it, insert and glue in a metal tube and then add a sling loop so it copies an original.

That has been out for awhile, that brace.

They make one similar without the brace.  The brace version is pretty stupid for a NON-shorty BRN-180.

The version without the brace is very nice.

I am not sure if the post "its coming" is meaning the BRN-180 is shipping or a short version BRN-180 is coming.

Pretty sure it's the short version. It looks like 2 regular M-LOK slots, then a small one, then the end of the handguard.
