Quoted: So it can do everything the AR can, but less accurately, with more weight, and with less aftermarket support and ammo options. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: They're fun, cool, and iconic, but the AR is much more practical. Same spot the FAL and G3 are in for me. I got my AKs before prices went all the way through the roof, or I wouldn't own one. Similarly, I don't own a FAL, and would love one, but there are a lot of things ahead of that on my list. 12.8 pounds for my AK105 vs 10.8 for my KAC. Ain't nothing light in the real NV fighting rifle The edge goes to the AR for sure but AKs haven't been left behind, not way behind anyway https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/73202/20210304_192126-1854701.jpg https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/73202/20200705_173443-1491812.jpg So it can do everything the AR can, but less accurately, with more weight, and with less aftermarket support and ammo options. Other rifles can't do all the things, or even half of them, that an AR can. Considering the AKs base design I find it pretty impressive that it can even be in the same ballpark as the AR |

Considering the AKs base design I find it pretty impressive that it can even be in the same ballpark as the AR I'd be intrigued to be turned loose with a good base AK, a mill and lathe, and a shitload of stock. The limited amount of time I've spent with them hasn't been nearly enough to get much of an impression. |

Quoted: One advantage of the AK is that it works with zero maintenance in various places where their version of Organize, Train, and Equip an army consists of grabbing a guy off the street, beating the shit out of him, giving him a uniform (optional), and setting him out at a military checkpoint on a potholed dirt and mud track that masquerades as a highway, in order to rob passersby. Quoted: Generally speaking I think the typical AK rifle is a shit base to work with and deserves most of the criticism about not being modernizable, but I've followed the evolution of the Russian guns because they are my passion as far as collecting goes. By the time you get to the 74M series and pick up on some even newer factory modernizations from Russia, some aftermarket accessories like ZenitCo, and even a few key US inventions, you really do get reasonably close to the AR in capability. Not quite as fast or as light and you won't win square range theatrics, but for real world use they are credible fighting rifles (IMHO. I'm not an operator and don't operate) That said I'm the last guy to pretend they are better, but I am always the guy that looks at a situation for what it actually is vs geting sucked into all the hype (positive or negative).
