A long, long time ago, I worked along side a few Sears employees who were on commission. They moved a tremendous amount of merchandise - mostly due to individual initiative - and made excellent money doing it.

Nowadays, nobody is on commission at Sears.

None of the employees (who probably want $15/hr) were helpful and were just sitting on their phones and joking around while people were waiting for help.

Yes they are. I went in recently a day bought a new floor steamer. The wife had a coupon I had to go get. The guy was lime, ask for me by name, we are commission. They do not get business cards though.

The sears at our local mall closed years ago. The space was eventually sold to Rose's...

Our Sears in on life support and expected to close at any time. The mall is just about deserted anyway. Even the movie theaters have moved.
Rose's 5 and 10 Cent Stores were big in the NC/SC area when I was a kid. I worked in one Christmases while in high school and college. Good money for a small town kid over the holidays.

It has been at least 15 years since I stepped foot in a Sears.

I went there to buy a water pump, got it home and no pressure gauge.  I took it back
and the guy in Hardware had to open seven boxes before we found one with a pressure gauge.

All the pumps were made in Mexico.

I still have a couple of SxS and O/U shotguns maked "Ted Williams" and "Sears andRoebuck" that came from Sears back in the day.

That was probably late 1960's.
