FAL, if you like camo shorts and hightop sneakers. AR-10 is the answer maybe a CZ Bren BR if you want to buy something different, if it's even available yet... https://www.gunsweek.com/sites/default/files/styles/mt_slideshow/public/archive/contents/rifles/news/cz-bren-2-br-762x51mm-battle-rifle/CZ-BREN2-BR-Opening.jpg?itok=rQdSXWhC But yes, I do like. |

I have an AR-10, M1A and a Fal. If I had to grab just one to use as a battle rifle it would be the Fal.
The other two are fun to shoot and are more accurate than the Fal, but they're also more temperamental. |

I should probably clarify that I have a LWRC REPR for DMR work. Easily weighs 20 pounds with optic and bipod, etc. Fantastic at range though. I was wanting something that could be carried vs only useful in static position. View Quote |

M1 Garand. Go with a classic. Sure, the M14 clones or FALs work, but there is something to be said for wood and steel. View Quote |

"7.62 Battle Rifle" implies the cold war classics, so I'll vote FAL. DSA's new "Improved Battle Rifle" line blends some modern updates on the old war horse, though they are expensive.
For cost-effectiveness, the modern AR-pattern .308s are hard to beat. $800 at PSA gets you a lot of rifle. Windham has a bunch at $1200 that are pretty good. And if you've got the pockets for them, Larue, LMT, KAC, etc are all out there too. I'm personally most curious about the Tavor 7. First ones have shipped, I'm letting everyone else be the guinea pigs. |

I have an Imbel FAL and a Polytech AK.
I prefer the AK. It's not as heavy, the trigger is better, I can pack more ammo in a 90 round Chinese drum. It's easier to clean as well and goes bang every time with SABP ammo. It's also more accurate. |

The IWI galil ace looks pretty cool also... I just wonder how accurate it is.

I've owned an RRA AR-10, PTR-91 and M1A. I have not owned or handled a FAL or SCAR or any other 7.62x51 battle rifle. But I'm partial to the M1A, it feels the best to me and I shoot it well.

Quoted: Well, considering the fact that 7.62x51 shoots bigger bullets and the overwhelming majority of shooting is done within 500 yards............ View Quote |

Quoted: So your argument is that 6.5cm is effective at such a long range it’s unnecessary and an older, less capable round should be used for the same role in a DMR role? Great logic. Also 500 yards is 5.56 with a 1-6x optic territory. Don’t even bother with a battle rifle in that case... View Quote No, I'm saying if you're not shooting past 500m you won't see any difference in external ballistics while having superior internal ballistics. All this while still being able to take advantage of a more commonly available cartridge. |

I didn't know the PoF Revolution existed.
If it performs, I'd get that or the SCAR. 308 rifles are too heavy and those two seem the closest to "standard". |
|
I have an LMT MWS with the slick side receiver. It's a heavy pig, but I've never had any issues with it. It's a pretty good entry in the "AR-10" category.
