Brush hook. I've got a couple I need to clean up and sharpen.

At the end of my backyard, between my yard and the woods, there is growth of sticker bushes and whatever is called with the prickly balls headed towards my yard.
Is this the top I would need to go berserk on them? I tried my weed eater and the growth laughed at me. |

Some folks call it a slingblade. I call it a Kaiser blade. Sling blade has a thinner more flexible head (think like a machete in thickness and flexibility) longer haft and are always a swept back hook. Id call the tool pictured a brush hook or bush hook but they have many names. It is really a type of clearing axe suitable for small sapling and brush. |

Good timing. Wife and I want to clear our half acre here on the big island of some 9 ft tall elephant grass.

I have and use a scythe, and carry a stone while in use. It is very sharp and will remove plants with thick stalks.

Brush hook. About the same amount of work as shoveling a large driveway. If you’re at risk of a heart attack, I’d pass on it.

Here’s the guide that shows what the USDA calls these hand tools: https://www.pcta.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/handtools_for_trail_work.pdf
I think the regional colloquialisms are cool. |

View Quote I have a similar short hand held version of this with a more pronounced hook that is extremely useful on trails and hillsides. Great PDF a couple posts above, btw. |
