People who are pushing the socialist healthcare bullshit?  Apparently health insurance companies are all a scam.  Medicare will save everyone with no downsides.  I could roll my eyes so hard my neck would break.

I dunno, I've never had issues with mine.  I pay more for my car insurance and co-pays are all $20, which are rare anyway.

Taking money from younger, poorer, healthier people and distributing it to older, people who end their careers typically making the most money in their lives, unhealthy people seems like boomer socialist shit.

Either Medicare for all or just get rid of it

Medicare can get away with paying a pittance for procedures because the private insurance companies can be overcharged. It’s a hidden tax and how they got the Medicare system as big as it is. If everyone got Medicare, Medicare would have to actually pay a proper rate.

Personally I don't believe in an absolute form of society/government. Some socialist elements can be effective, just as some areas are more conducive to a completely free-market solution.

Healthcare is an area where I think socialist principles could be a benefit.

I just got out of a 4 day hospital stay, I had a rhinovirus that caused my own immune system to attack my lungs. I have great insurance, but my CoPay is still going to be north of $6k. I'm lucky in that I can afford it, though it's not exactly comfortable, but for a lot of people that could be a life-altering bill.

There's got to be some middle ground on these issues, whether it's government funded research to reduce the eventual costs of medications and treatments, or some other kind of coexistence between the government and the free market, but healthcare isn't always something you can just do without if you can't afford it.

I don't know what the right answer is, but it isn't what we have now, and it isn't on either extreme either.

Simple statement. How you like your current medical insurance coverage? Because it is going to suck now.

This is the same statement I said a lot of people during the early days of the Zero administration. Expect to spend more and get less back.

It will happen eventually. The ACA is not maintainable and has many deferred provisions that undercut remaining decent private plans (like employer funded and managed plans). Some event will occur that will trigger the Useful Idiots to drive Medicare For All through.

Funny, boomers get mad when I tell them that.

i never really get into a discussion with these folks. they're either socialists/commies or economic illiterates (or both). whats the point of a debate?

i did once have this brought up and told the person - "just admit it, what you really want is for everyone to be equally miserable. you dont want everyone to have top healthcare, you want NOBODY to have top health care"

There’s not really anything to say.

The left/progressive/socialist mindset does not care about real information.

They have this fantasy that people would be healthy if they had free medical care.  American emergency departments are full of non-citizens, people giving fake names, etc. getting free care.  They are also full of people that have have self inflicted infected heart valves, dead livers, trauma, dialysis, strokes, heart failure, etc. upon themselves.  And are cognitively poorly functioning humans that get a psychiatric diagnosis.  These medical conditions and bullshit diagnosis get them set up for Medicaid, Medicare, SSDI, etc. in additional to the other money pit benefits they have.  Now that they have a universal basic income/free health insurance equivalent…

They don’t get healthy.  They keep doing the same things.  They don’t comply with their follow ups, medications, dialysis, etc. and we pour more money into them as they end up in the ER and hospital even more.  This can be seen and verified by speaking with any ER nurse, PA, or doctor.

The other fantasy is that if we would just tax “the rich” and “the corporations” more, we could pay for everything and anything and a whole lot more benefits.

That is simply not true.  The math does not work out.
America spends about 7 Trillion a year.
We only have about 3.5 Trillion in revenue coming in.
The top 0.1 to 0.01 percent are the political, financial, and social elite.  They are essentially protected from taxes or the impact of doing that.  They have or have the equivalent on average of around 10-20 million coming in a year.

The” top one percent “- meaning the guy putting in 90 hours a week running his business making 500K or the neurosurgeon working 100 hours a week making a million - are very much not who the media paints them as, which is essentially Mr. Monopoly getting chauffeured around in his Rolls Royce looking for Grey Poupon greedily taking and keeping money which should belong to the rest of us.

And it’s largely this group that is not tiered with trust funds, foundations, offshores, shells, etc. like the top 0.1 to 0.01 percent that is paying about 40% of the tax revenue already.
The next top 9% also contributes over a third.

Then the next 40% the rest.

So, despite 50% contributing nothing, getting benefits, etc. we hear they are “not paying their fair share.”

The reality is some capable, accomplished, productive hard working people are getting ass raped paying well beyond their share.

Regardless, the left/socialists/progressives think we need to take more money for them and give everyone all the free college, medical care, housing, sex changes, etc.

But, do the math, if you took all of every person’s and every business’ income and profits, you could only fund the national spending for a year or two.  And they will have gone out of business and quit working by then.

You can draw out the math- but they refuse to believe it.

So don’t bother having the conversation.
It doesn’t matter if the conversation is about how many more African American theoretical physicists there should be, owning guns, male vs female physical performance, pretending insane people are not crazy, or this.

I simply look up what the .gov spends per person on medicare and medicaid, then times it by 330 million people, and give them a price tag. Also I use the same per person number and tell them their taxes will have to go up twice that amount, to cover those who dont work ( kids and seniors plus others ).
$7,153 for a working age person
$19,098 for over 65

so lets split the middle  call it 13k, times 330 million equals 4,290,000,000,000. or almost doubling the current fed spending. and if your a worker who has to pay to cover them selves, with those who dont work you will be paying at least 26k more a year in taxes to cover it. Most drop it at that point

If they were actually on Medicare they would soon understand that you still have to buy Part G (private insurance plan) and Part D (private insurance plan for RX drugs) or go to a Medicare Advantage Plan (huge scam where you are locked in with doctors who they don't pay much and don't authorize needed testing).  The up - side of Medicare is they set the rate that the hospital is allowed to charge.  Medical expenses are not a comparison of apples to apples the health care industry is crooked as hell they bill huge costs and settle with different insurance companies for different amounts.  You can also negotiate the cost if you are paying cash.  It's such a misleading billing system that rather than have Medicare for all the law should say that the Medicare rate is all that they can bill anyone.   Before the HMO ACT OF 1973  it was ILLEGAL to profit off Healthcare.  Repeal that and you fix the system.

Most younger people aren't "healthier". Rather, they feel a certain degree of invulnerability. They may or may not get treatment for medical conditions. Oh, and those "poorer" people are often receiving gov't assistance paid for by older people.

I am not defending insurance companies.
A ton of money gets wasted/diverted there.

But by law 80% of what they take in must be spent on health care.  They can only make off with 20%.

Show me a government agency or leftist project/charity that only wastes or makes away with 20%.

These socialist types want the quality of medical care we currently have but for free.

If it gets socialized (which is where we are headed, IMO), people will quickly realize they will get what they pay for.   Quality health care will decrease substantially, or simply evaporate.

You ask them if they've experienced Medicare... or socialized medicine in Canada, the UK, or the EU.

It's fucking awful.  Post-op mortality for some stuff in the UK is 2-5x as high as the US, assuming you even get approved for the operation.

But likely you're wasting your time, a lot of people who want socialized medicine want it so that the government can use it as a weapon against people they don't like.
