Hey @CapnCrusty, are those sturdy? Everyday use cane?

Yup they are.  The tube is sturdy aluminum and there's enough excess length that it can be shortened by several inches to a comfortable length.  The handle is fine for support use but not the most comfortable for using the sword, but it's adequate.  The blade is surprisingly durable and will take a pretty good edge.

If you were in a position where normal, effective weapons might get you on the wrong side of the thin blue line, (a tool apron/belt with) an Estwing framing hammer laying within arm's reach would make a formidable weapon. The one i bought 25 years ago has built several houses and is still going strong.

Another innocent looking option would be hornet spray. At close range, i bet it'd take the fight and vision from an attacker if need be.

Folks toted staffs, swords and tomahawks of various sort for eons, so I'd think those would work.

I always thought a boar spear would be a pretty good weapon.

The Humble Straight Stick.
From the Trenches of WWI:

onwards, to your 36 inch hardwood "riot" baton, its not sexy, but its cheap and works, no need to worry about sharpening it either.
