Not .50bmg or .338 lapua?
I personally would like to have a Ruger #1 Tropical in .416 Rigby or a .45-70 in a Marlin Guide Gun.

I think owning a .505 Jeffery or Gibbs would be cool.
Not practical (or cheep) but cool. |
|
I want a something chambered in something obscene like .577 T-rex
or 700 nitro |
|
I had a Win M70 in .416 Rem once. Shooting off the bench to sight it in got a little rough , but off-hand it wasn't bad.
What I really want is a .340 Wby. |

Quoted: Remington 700 Classic .375 H&H Magnum I would live a .375 to go with my pre64 in .300H&H |

a .700WTF
or .950JDJ the 17/50BMG (that is a 50 BMJ case necked down to fire a .177 bullet) looks interesting |

I know a bunch of guys who buy some kind of "going to africa" or "shooting a polar bear" rifle and never do anything with it. If I was just going to own rifles to hunt I doubt I would bother with anything bigger than 308 unless I was making a special trip, THEN I would buy a dangerous game rifle. I just do not see the appeal, to each their own. |

A 30-06 is the "12 gauge" of rifles, it's all I really want or need
a hunting weight 30-06 and a colt 6920 are the only two rifles I own now I've shot a lot of rifles in my life and I don't really get too excited about hard-kicking rifles with a lot of muzzle blast and expensive ammo ammo anymore |
|
I want to eventually get around to buying a double in either .470 NE or .500 NE.

Define "sporting"... is there a season for DHS drones yet? http://www.saafmuseum.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/40mmcomp.jpg DO NOT load a clip of ammo into the feed tray, here. DO NOT pullback this lever to the rear and return it to this position. DO NOT press the foot triggers here, here and here. |

416 Rigby.
I already have a left handed CZ 375 H&H that plan in elk hunting with. |

.30-06 is big enough for me. +1 Although a M700 Remington in 8mm Mauser would be cool too. |

If I was just going to own rifles to hunt I doubt I would bother with anything bigger than 308 unless I was making a special trip, THEN I would buy a dangerous game rifle. I just do not see the appeal, to each their own. this there is a quantity used to measure recoil called "free recoil energy" basically, it's just the amount of energy that the rifle would have if it was free to recoil backwards, just like the bullet going one way and the rifle going the other the free recoil energy is the amount of energy your shoulder has to soak up to stop the rifle the reason the 30-06 has been so popular for so long is that a hunting weight 30-06 firing a 150 grain bullet develops about 17.5 ft-lbs of free recoil energy any gun that develops more than about 20 ft-lbs will be uncomfortable for most shooters, make them flinch those elephant killer type 45-70 loads with 350 and 400 grain bullets will generate free recoil energy of almost 50 ft-lbs. barrel porting and using a muzzle brake will reduce recoil by a large amount but then you have increased muzzle blast. If you ever shot a heavy 357 mag load out of a 4 inch barrel and then tried the same load in a 6' barrel you will know the difference that muzzle blast can make I always look at this from the perspective of passing the "paper plate test" at 25 yards with a handgun and 100 yards with a rifle. If you cannot pass the paper plate test with 5 shots, you're basically just wasting your time and money. |

I like guns and probably wouldn't pass up a good deal on anything I came across that interested me, like a good used Marlin 45-70.
But for practical purposes I think my .308s are big enough for anything I will encounter around here. |

The biggest I have now is a Rem 700 Classic in .375 H&H. I would really like to have a .470 NE double rifle.

I've shot both the 375 H&H and the 458 Win Mag. Both were kind of cool but I have no use for either one. Friend just picked up the 375, kind of on a whim. Nice CZ bolt gun. Kicked less than an 870 with three inch slugs.
